Meeting the Parents(Part 1)
"Wow, Valentino, we are moving way too fast. Did you forget that I hired you not vice versa?" This boy was crazy, I couldn't meet his parents.
"Well, maybe I want to take our relationship to the next level?"
I released a dry laugh, "Next level?"
"Okay here's the thing My mom is having dinner and I need you as my date. And as faith would have it, I have a woman in my life." He shoved another forkful of food into his mouth.
"Okay, so when is the party?" Now it would definitely feel like a real relationship if I met his parents.
"Saturday"
"Like this Saturday, like Saturday one day from now Saturday?"
"There is only one Saturday in a week last time I checked"
"So that means I need a new outfit, I need to book an appointment for my hair, maybe I should get new nails-"
"Woah, Dalia it's just a dinner party, Wear a dress on Saturday and your hair is fine." He wore a smile like he mocking my reaction.
"Maybe because you are the male specimen but meeting the parents is a big deal for the girlfriends, especially the fake ones." I picked up my phone, I was texting my hairdresser if she could squeeze me in tomorrow.
"Well I for sure can say that you have nothing to worry about, my parents are pretty chill. I know my mom would love you."
"You're going to say that you're their son, and just to let you know you probably will never meet my parents anytime soon."
He took a long look at me before asking, "Why? I mean we've been supposedly dating for two months already" he pushed his plate to the side and placed his elbows on the table.
" I know" I was hoping my hairdresser texted back in the next 15 minutes or so, I would love to get my hair done before Saturday.
"Then-"
"How are you guys doing?" Sweet Helen came to check up on her favorite customers, and her demeanor changed after I broke the news. Valentino responded, "Good, the food was delicious as usual." he smiled
"I'll send your compliments to the chef." Her thin lips flick up in a smirk. Oh, wait there it is, I guess she wasn't fully heartbroken.
"Can we get the check please?" I said reminding her I was still there.
"You haven't finished your food yet, do you want a to-go box?" Valentino asked, I shook my head. "No, it really wasn't that good."
"Really? Usually, it's really good"
"It's just spaghetti and meatballs, Val, it's nothing special," I said in the nicest way I could muster up.
"I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your meal-"
"Sorry but we are really in a rush, so can you grab the check please."
"Of course, I'll be right back," she walked away, for an older woman she did not act her age.
"That was unnecessary," he said sounding disapprovingly.
"I didn't ask for your opinion, I asked her once I don't why she was standing there blabbering like I was coming to this mediocre restaurant again," I replied
Valentino leans back in his chair with wide eyes, "Mediocre? My mom and dad met here and had their first date in this restaurant 30 years ago, this place has so much history for my family."
