The guards horses were no match for mine. As it flew through the forest the sky became darker and darker.

Once I was quite sure we had lost the guards I slowed my horse to a stop. The boy jumped off and sat down under a tree. I slid off as well and got my first good look at him.

He had dark hair that hung into his equally dark green eyes. His skin was tan and freckled. He had a square jaw and surprisingly long eyelashes.

I sat down next to him. "Who are you?" I demanded.

He looked up at me warily, "My name is Jacob."

"Why were the king's guards after you?" I inquired.

He averted his eyes from mine and remained silent.

"Hm?" I said nudging his arm.

He sighed, "You can not tell anyone."

"I wont," I promised.

"I have magic," he whispered in my ear.

I gasped.

He hung his head. "I know, I know please don't-" he started before I interrupted him.

"I have magic too!" I blurted.

I was a little surprised that I had blurted that all out. I hadn't spoken of my magic in years. It had always been forbidden.

His eyes narrowed, "You do? How haven't I met you before?"

I furrowed my brow, "Why would you have met me before?" I looked him over. He was defiantly not on the same social status as my family. Where does he think we would've met?

He shrugged, "You know, at the magic camps."

I gave him a blank look.

He sighed, "No I don't know you. But there are camps for people like us."

My eyes grew wide, "How many people have magic?"

"I don't know," he said, "maybe hundreds in this part of the kingdom. I could take you there, that is, if you really have magic."

I really wanted to go. But, my parents would be worrying. I shook my head. "Not today," I said slowly. "I have to get home."

He nodded and jumped up, "Alright. Meet me in the field tomorrow at noon."

I nodded and started climbing onto my horse. "Goodbye!" I called as I galloped away.

"Wait!" He called, "whats your name!"

I twisted my head around and called back, "My name's Maleficent!" I saw him smile and then he was swallowed up by the forest.

I continued my trek through the forest. I had been very far into it. I started thinking. It was dark and the Prince had probably left already and my parents were probably furious that i wasn't home. And I would be leaving again tomorrow to meet a boy who, coming to think about it, I didn't even know had magic at all!

I shook my head to rid myself of those thought. Of course he had magic! One doesn't lie about that! I assured myself.

I was drawing nearer to the edge of the forest and I could see my home rising into my view. It was truly magnificent. It was made of smooth, shiny stones that reflected the feeble star-light and towering stone towers.

I entered the field separating the forest and my parents property. I sighed, I was rather nervous to face my parents. Once I reached the dirt path leading up to my house the great metal bared doors opened and swallowed me up. I jumped of my horse and put her in the stable with the rest.

I was nearly shaking with worry now as I timidly climbed the stone steps to the large oak door. The door opened and I stepped inside. I had entered into a great hall with two staircases in front of me winding majestically down to the floor. On one of them my mother was coming down to the hall.

When she caught sight of me her eyes bulged and she scowled.

"You," she growled drawing nearer to me, "where have you been?!"

"I-I was outside," I stammered out. My mother was nearly upon my now.

"The whole day?" she spat.

I nodded weakly and tried to make myself smaller.

"What were you doing out there?" she said through clenched teeth.

I shrugged, "I was out riding my horse."

She looked me over trying to tell if I was lying. Suddenly her eyes widened and she pointed to the bottom of my dress. "What's that?!" She screeched.

I looked down to where se had pointed and moaned. I had torn my dress.

I looked back at my mother who was fuming madly. "Go to you room!" she cried pointing up the stair case.

I hung my head, there was no use fighting her anyway.

I was halfway up the left stair case when from behind me I heard her screech, "And you will stay there tomorrow!"

My shoulders drooped as I trudged the length of the carpeted hall. At the end was a rounded wooden door. I threw it open and entered a rounded room with a spiral staircase in it. I slammed the door behind me and ran up the stairs and banged open the trapdoor above them.

I had entered my room. My room was round, it was the top of a tower. The walls were all stone and the floor was wooden. There was one ornate window with a silver grating on it.

There was also a wooden desk coated in crumbled up parchment and a four-poster bed with deep blue covers and hanging on it. I flopped onto the bed. I glared at the ceiling and made up my mind.

I was going to sneak out tomorrow and meet Jacob.
