A couple weeks earlier...
After Cassie was admitted at the hospital.

Linda POV

I had received a call from Frank, Danny's father, telling the family we had an officer that got shot in the line of duty. At first, I thought it was Danny, but it was his other partner, Cassie. I shared his grief, but I was way more concerned about him. When I arrived at the hospital, there was definitely tension in the air.

"Why can't they let me back there?!"

"Danny please.. they will alert us when they know something."

"Is Uncle Danny going to be okay?"

"Of course, he is just worried is all."

"It's all my fault, I shouldn't have had her follow me, if she didn't, she wouldn't be in here."

"Danny you wouldn't have known that, expect the unexpected son."

I have never heard Danny so worked up before. The family's voices were loud, clearly trying to understand the situation as well. I then step into the main room, everyone's eyes landing on me but Danny. My eyes move over to a man who was talking to Jamie, giving him a little piece of paper. With that, he walked out.

Weird.. He's never acted like this.

"What is going on?" I asked.

Grandpa Raegan, steps forward with his newspaper.

"Danny's partner got shot. Now we are waiting for her results."

Hmm..

"How long have you guys been here?" I asked once more, making eye contact with Erin.

"2 hours maybe? I don't even remember, we have been sitting here for a while." she replies.

"Why don't you guys go home and rest?" I ask.

Jamie shakes his head, looking right to my husband.

"He insisted that we stay here, he said even if we go home, he's not leaving. He don't want to leave his partner he clearly endangered."

Aww that's very sweet, but isn't that a little much?

Frank sat down, patting Danny's back. The kids ran up to daddy, hugging him tightly. Wrapping arms around them, I distinctively see tears welding up in his eyes.

Oh my god...

After a while.

A female doctor came out, calling for us. Danny was the first to shoot up, clearly ready to make a beeline to the starting line. I watched him, our kids sitting next to me, on their best behavior.

"Is she okay?" Danny asked, almost breathless.

The nurse smiled.
