Here it was.
The night of May everyone waits for, when everything seems to wait in awe for the magic of summer to come and the stars shine in harmony with fireflies. The perfume of roses hung in the air, and the wind gave the most pleasant sensations on the skin, caressing it with silk fingers.
It was for this kind of nights she longed to have a garden during her childhood, and now that she was a young woman she had one, small, secluded, hidden in the midst of the city.
Lavender, roses and an old, barely surviving tree, where the small dancing lights confused the nearness of the grass with the distant purity of a sky full of stars.
She was standing under the tree, listening to the tenuous noises that came from the houses all around, and started wandering with her mind as well as with her legs, until she found herself humming a tune she never heard but was sure to remember from a distant past.
She suddenly started dancing towards the fence that divided her garden from the neighbor's and while doing so was filled with a feeling of anticipation, excitement and the most strange idea of having done this before, in a past when the garden was full of trees that cast their shadows over a little child, amazed by the perfumes and by the golden rays of a setting sun.
A car passing in the street broke the spell, and she found herself startled, looking at the garden, that now seemed to return to his original proportions and to its quiet existance, but she could glimpse a light slightly different from the others and then hear the most faint sound, just like a silver bell, ringing somewhere over the fence.
She shook her head and headed home, feeling like one who was keeping a stolen secret.
She didn't notice the little light following her shadow and placing itself where her heart should be, over the dark silhouette.
Before going back to the house she took some lavender flowers from the blooming bush and held them between her hands, until she could smell the fresh perfume that was her favourite in its simplicity.
The door squeaked as she opened it and the cozy atmosphere of the house welcomed her as she got inside, she then reached her room and put the lavender flowers in her wardrobe, in order to diffuse the scent.
"What a beautiful evening" she thought and then slumped on the couch, near her parents.
Neither of them had noticed the small light that now hid among drying lavender flowers.
