If At First You Don't Succeed Then Lie, Lie, Lie Prologue
Sometime its seems like it happened to someone else.
Like maybe it was a story I heard or a movie I'd watched.
But it wasn't this was my life and this pain I feel ripping me in two, its real.
The worst part though is waking up every single day to find myself still completely alone to find that he is still dead, to find that the man I loved had taken everything from and he didn't care.
My real name is Sapphire Alexis Raine although not many people know me by that name anymore.
It's been two years since the murder of my father and I don't go a day without thinking about the man that murdered him.
The man that I had once trusted someone I told everything to, a man who had promised me the world and he betrayed me.
I didn't understand at first why he would do something so terrible, but when I had looked into those eyes after he killed him, there was no life left in them only darkness.
Running was the only thing I could do, the only way to escape this nightmare.
And now he's after me.
I saw and heard too much I wasn't supposed to know anything.
I was quieter back then barely said a word, which means I heard EVERYTHING.
2 years earlier
I skipped down the road whistling the happy tune, that my father had gotten stuck in my head.
It was Saturday and we were making our traditional Saturday night dinner Pancakes except dad had forgotten to the milk so I had offered to walk down to the shops and get it while he finished getting everything ready.
When I got back to the house I found my long time boyfriend Jace's car in the drive way and the front door wide open.
I hesitantly stepped into the house unsure of what I would find, I quietly closed the door behind me.
It was dark and the lights were turned off but I knew this house like the back of my hand since I had grown up here.
As I placed the milk down on the kitchen bench I heard Jace's voice yell upstairs "WHERE IS IT?" I jumped back frightened by how cold and demanding his voice was.
He wasn't like this, he was nice and sweet and caring, he didn't have a mean bone in his body.
I quietly made my way up the stairs ready to go off at him for yelling at my father like that.
I saw light coming from the study, the door was half way closed and what I saw inside made me stop in my track and my heart beat faster.
Inside was Jace standing on one side of the desk hold a gun to my father's head and my father was sitting calmly in his chair.
I was horrified, I couldn't move, why was he holding a gun to my fathers head, why did he even have a gun.
Jace wasn't a violent person he had never even yelled at me even when we argued.
"Where is it" Jace asked again.
What is he talking about? What does he want?
"I didn't think you were like your father, I was hoping it skipped a generation, Sapphire's in love with you" my father replied dodging the question.
"Well it didn't, my human side fought it off but my 18th birthday was yesterday and it was a red moon making my demon side stronger killing my human side and as for your daughter anything I ever felt for her even if it was nothing at all is gone now and not coming back now where is it?"
As he said those words I felt like my heart got ripped out of my chest, he loved me, he told me he loved me how could he just suddenly not anymore and what was he going on about not being human??
I was so confused.
My father looked towards the door as if sensing me there, our eyes locked and I could see the love and sorrow flowing out of his.
He looked back towards Jace and replied in a cold voice I had never heard him use before "I will never tell you where it is, I would rather die a thousand deaths."
A sick smile crossed Jace's face as he replied "Then die you will."
A terrifying scream shot out of my mouth filling the house as Jace pulled the trigger.
The bullet whizzed through the air and hit my father straight in the head; his blood spilled everywhere staining the carpet.
As my father's body fell to the ground the moonlight hit his killers face lighting it up like the 4th of July.
My whole body went ridged and the shock tore through my body at the face of my father's murderer.
How could he do this to us to my father?
His cold dark eyes were not the same warm friendly ones I'd come to know, that I had come to love.
My life flashed before my eyes as he raised the gun pointing it straight at my chest.
"Goodbye Sapphire" he whispered as the shot rang through the air i jumped to the side and the bullet grazed my right arm.
I landed with a thud than quickly jumped up ignoring the pain in my arm and ran straight into the woods away from my father's motionless body and the man who now wanted me dead.
And whom I knew would do absolutely anything to make it happen.
