Tim Bradford was sad. He would never say that, because he wasn't usually given to talking about his feelings, but Lucy could tell. Things had finally imploded with Isabel and for the past few shifts Tim had spoken only in monosyllables. Lucy watched him from the passenger seat, knowing that he was going over and over what had happened and wondering if there was anything he could have done to have made it so everything between them had worked out. When they stopped for gas, Lucy ran in and got them both cherry slushies, hoping it would bring a smile to his face. He thanked her, but continued to frown.

Lucy's heart broke for him. She wanted to touch his face with her fingertips and when he turned to look at her, draw his head towards her. She wished she could kiss him until he forgot about Isabel.

The second time she thought about kissing Tim Bradford, he had just finished running down a perp with a chase that had ended in a restaurant kitchen. His uniform and parts of his face were covered in marinara. While some other officers put the suspect into the back of a cruiser, she helped Tim wipe the sauce from his face. As she stood on her tip toes and ran a damp paper towel over his forehead, she was overwhelmed with the desire to lean forward and press her lips to his.

Lucy had been surprised to see a text from Tim on a Saturday morning, inviting her to go for a hike with him and Kojo. He must have been able to tell how much she had been missing her former dog recently. They met up at the start of the trail and hiked to the top of the hill. It was about a mile both ways, and they chatted about work as they followed Kojo, who's tongue hung out and tail wagged joyfully the whole time, hardly believing his luck at being outside with his two favorite people.

When they got to the top, they sat on a boulder and got out water and snacks for themselves and the pup. The view was beautiful and Lucy realized she was almost painfully happy, being exactly where and with whom she most wanted to be. Everything in her wanted to close the distance between them with a kiss so he would realize she wanted to be so much more than just his friend or his boot.

Lucy sat in her car and tried to convince herself to walk into the station. Last night it had finally happened. After years of dreaming and wanting she had finally kissed Tim and it had thrilled her, but also, she knew it wasn't real. Because it had just been practicing for their UC gig. But it hadn't felt like practice. And she had spent all night trying to psych herself up to say that exact thing to Tim this morning. But now she was at the station and couldn't even get out of the car.

When she finally stepped out, she saw Tim with a surprisingly similar look on his face still sitting in his car a few spaces down. She felt her already racing heart beat even harder. Was it possible he had felt all the same things she had? She walked towards him as he got out of his car and joined her on the sidewalk.

"We need to talk," he said, and it took everything in her not to leap at him again, grabbing onto him and kissing him with everything in her because he finally knew how she felt and he felt the same way. Then his eyes dropped from hers as he finished his sentence, "We should work more on their back stories."

Lucy had been broken up with Chris for two weeks. A bunch of them hit up a bar after an especially long shift. She was telling Aaron about a call she had gone on when she caught Tim's eyes on her from across the room. He was talking to Angela by the bar as he sipped his drink but his eyes never left hers. Suddenly whatever Aaron was saying in response to her story sounded very far away. All she could hear was her own heartbeat. "Could you hold this?" she asked suddenly, handing Aaron her drink. She crossed the bar, her eyes never leaving Tim's. When she got to him, she didn't hesitate. Taking his hand she said, "Come with me." He put his drink down on the bar and let himself be led to a dark corner away from their coworkers. She leaned back against the bar and ran her fingers through her hair, pulling his head down to hers and finally kissing him like she had wanted to for so long.
