Getting settled

My name is Isabel I just turned fourteen and I recently moved to California with my mom. Next week I will start my first year of high school. I'm still trying to find new friends before school starts, and I don't have much time. It's going to be hard because nobody In this neighborhood ever gets out of their house. I hate this place, I think that they are all adult and I don't even know if they leave their houses to buy groceries. I went inside and a few minutes later I hear my mom calling me to go downstairs to eat dinner. When I was done I went back upstairs to get ready to go to bed. I suddenly wake up, I look outside and it's still dark, I then look at my alarm clock and it is 3 am. I turn around to see a shadow standing at my door, as if guarding me from anything harmful. Scared to death I scream so that my mom can hear from across the hall and the shadow suddenly disappears from sight. My mom comes running pass the door holding a bat and asks me," what happened are you okay?!" Not knowing what happened she looks around the room trying to find out what I got scared of. When she didn't see anything, she looked me like if I was crazy. She tells me quietly, "go to sleep, I'll see you at breakfast, and kisses me goodnight."
