"Sorceress Y/N, you are hereby banished from the Kingdom of Amijiki, any efforts to return will result in a bounty put on your head. Leave. Now."

The mob's jeering left me unfazed as I pierced the king's gaze, who seemed to be using all his power to gaze back, until the crowd began to surround me and as I stepped back, they stepped forward until I was running out of there with the king's court not far behind.

Not missing a beat, I vanished before their eyes and rematerialised outside the courtyard where I entered the castle on my first day. I would only have a few minutes before, if not the mob then the guards, started after me, for I was still inside the kingdom. Cursing at myself, I allowed my body to rest for those few minutes while I prepared my mind; when I first arrived, I had just woken up and only caught a glimpse of the kingdom so I could not use magic to transport myself anywhere outside the castle besides District 4, a place obviously out of bounds for me after the morning's debacle.

With few options left, and time running out, I made the decision to return home, they would accept me, my seniors explaining that there would always be a bed prepared - they respected me, being as talented as I was, mostly because it made their job of teaching easier. Unfortunately, the journey by carriage was 2 days and to teleport myself that distance would take a lot of effort, and probably be painful.

To transport an object is easy but to focus one particular place and move yourself over hundreds of miles in an instant, especially one so powerful as myself, it required a lot of energy.

As yelling could be overheard in the distance, I scrunched up my eyes and focused all my magic. My teeth clenched as I began to glow from the heat radiating from my skin, and just like that, I was gone.

Light shone out of me in every direction, filling the room which was once pitch black. As my skin cooled down and the energy left my body, I collapsed onto the ground in exhaustion. The days events and my huge usage of magic had worn me down and this was the final blow. Nothing could get me to willingly moe from that spot, my muscles were paralysed, I would be concerned if I had any energy left to care.

Not bringing my head up to look, I knew where I resided; my dormitory, where I spent the better part of my life, and slept in only a week ago. Muffled cries could be heard from outside the door and they carried on for a while, if I could, I would have used my magic to shut them up.

"What is going on here?" My senior who oversaw the west wing, slammed open the door, voice booming into the room. Behind her hid a group of pathetic looking sorceresses-in-training, whom the cries from earlier originated. My senior surveyed the room and instantly noticed me, "Y/N, what are you doing here?"

She crouched down to my level and peered into my eyes, "Girls, inform the matron that she will be taking in a visitor." The young sorceresses took no time to disappear to the infirmary. "I thought you were fulfilling a request sent by the king of the Amijiki Kingdom, what are you doing here? Well, you cannot stay here because this is no longer your room, you are going to the infirmary."

The woman placed a hand on my forehead and we appeared in the infirmary, instantly greeted by the matron who picked me up off the stone floor, "What's happened? Is it urgent?" Matron hurried my body over to one of the hospital beds while waiting for a response. "No, no, nothing urgent she just needs a bed to rest in while we prepare another room."

This annoyed the matron who promptly dropped me onto a hard mattress, "I'll have you know this is not some hotel, I won't have one of your students stay here because they blew up their room. Not again."

"She could also do with some revitalising herbs, to speed up her recovery," The senior proceeded to produce a pin which she stabbed into my arm, "You see?". Matron sighed and checked my forehead, "Why didn't you start with that? Leave her with me, she'll be good as new by tomorrow."

Hushed voices could be heard at the back of the infirmary. "Girls, it is rude to eavesdrop, all of you will be on cleaning duty in the dungeons for tomorrow." The students protested and my senior gave a remark back but I was already unconscious and did not get to hear it.

-

I woke up in the middle of the night. Everything was covered in darkness and for a moment I started to panic, wondering where I was. As I tried to sit up, it felt like lead rested on my chest and I had to use my arms - which were just as stiff - to help push myself up. Producing a small flame from my hand, using all my energy and causing a slight sting, I peered around the room; the infirmary was empty besides a few patients - matron was nowhere to be seen.

Struggling to keep myself sat up, I collapsed onto the bed and quickly fell back asleep.

-

Bustling through the infirmary, completing her daily tasks, matron caused me to rise from my slumber once more. As I opened my eyes, the woman noticed almost instantly and made a beeline for my bed. "Good, you're awake. Hecate wants to see you, she's not happy, but first settle into your room, it's in the north tower, the first room at the bottom."

"The North tower? But that is where the seniors sleep, why must I settle there?" I was not really in the mood to be ushered out so quick, my muscles still ached but I could move them at least. "You're no longer a sorceress-in-training, can't be having guests sleep in students' quarters, that'd look bad on the school."

My body flared up as matron rushed me out of bed so she could make it. "Why was I sent to the infirmary, why not just send me straight to my room?" I grimaced as she pulled out some sort of strongly-smelling disinfectant to spray the bed with. "You needed to be treated to matron's love and care... and my special rhodiola herb mix."

She then proceeded to remove the bedsheets even though she had already disinfected, "Should've seen yourself when you came in, a human'd think you were on the verge of death. Obvious case of magic drudgery is all." Matron turned to me and gave me a look like she wanted me to leave. "What is magic drudgery?"

"What do you mean 'what's magic drudgery', they teach you about it don't they?" I shook my head. "Really? Well, it's just when sorceresses overwork themselves, use too much of their magic, then they become completely paralysed with a slight fever. You slept the day away because of it, 24 hours you've been asleep, taking up my valuable infirmary space."

"24 hours, you can not be serious, I have been asleep for that long?" Matron nodded. "I have things to be done, why did you not wake me, matron?" She gave one last huff, "Because sorceresses with magic drudgery need their beauty sleep. You are not allowed to use sorcery for the next 48 hours, and you can't push yourself physically either, or risk doing permanent damage, now get out of my infirmary, I've got better things to do than give you the time of day."

And with that, I was out of there. I heard matron was a force to be reckoned with when angered, though I never discovered from personal experience, it was not often that I ended up injured. I thought about how long I had spent asleep, never in my life had I slept more than 10 hours but to waste my day asleep was crazy. It was not a light sleep either, not once did I dream of anything, which contrasts the bed I was sleeping in; infirmary beds were hard and thin with thinner sheets, everything even more uncomfortable than the beds in the dormitories.

I headed to my room in the North Tower excited to see what it would be like in a senior's dormitory.
