The crack of thunder could be heard from above, along with a bright flash of light, illuminating the night sky. The crickets continued chirping, the rain emitting a soft pitter patter sound that would be considered soothing to others. But tonight, for these people, this sound would forever remain a reminder of what happened.
During it all, the sound of paws hitting the ground rapidly became more prevalent, you could see the silhouettes of two felines, running through the dark woods quickly, to escape the dark predator behind them. Their breath became raggedy, and panicked, as they rant through the woods, slowly going tired as the monster behind them continued to bark and cuss at them, as they tried to make their escape.
Another loud rumble could be heard, then a flash of light. Revealing the dead end ahead. The dreaded end. The two came to a halt, the largest figure whipped around, their hackles raised as they faced the predator ahead. The predator took a step forward, a grin on its face, as it let out a low growl. "End of the line." It spoke, it's amber eyes glimmering under the moonlight.
The smaller figure let out a scared squeak, as the larger one stood in front. Protecting them. They quickly looked back. They didn't know what lay ahead. They didn't know if they would just drop of and die if they continued ahead, but they had to escape, they couldn't let it hurt her.
They quickly scooped up the smaller figure by the scruff, and jumped off the edge, suddenly, there was a bright light. And everything was silent.
-- A FEW HOURS LATER --
The sun shone brightly in the bright afternoon sky. The village was hustling and bustling as usual, the market was open and rumbling with activity. And everyone was just having a good time. The little village of Bryxton was always a happy little place, their ruler, Thyra, was a strong leader. And always remained positive, despite the circumstances.
A large lynx trotted through the village, which was quite an unusual sight. The town was mostly domesticated felines, so the Lynx would often attract the wrong kind of attention. But she had been here for so long, the villagers didn't seem to care anymore.
She had been adopted by a fairly nice family when she was around 4-5 years old. And had lived with them ever since. But things have changed so much since then, it's to be expected, considering this was more than 10 years ago. But she never expected it to change for the worse.
Once her eldest brother Cedric passed away when she was 16, things took a turn for the worse. Her father became a horrible drunkard, leaving her poor mother to work for the entire family. Ever since he died, they became poor. Barely able to feed her and her younger sister. But she kept going. She had gotten a job at the local workshop to hopefully provide more for her mother and sister. But she wasn't very good at it.
"Hey Elira!!" A voice spoke, Elira stopped in her tracks, facing her friend, Thyra. She was a small calico cat. The size difference between the two was obvious, but they had been best friends since they were kits. "Hey Thyra" She spoke simply, giving her friend a light grin. "Sooo, how's the job going?" Thyra asked curiously, sitting down and allowing her tail to flick around freely.
"It's going well, better than the last ones Ive had" She said, reminiscing about the..not so great attempts at getting a job.. If she was being honest, she was lucky she'd even got the job she has now. The amount of property damage she's caused due to her size in general..
