I was giving him power.

I didn't understand why. The power was flowing out of me. I was fixing Kai. I didn't know why or how but I recognized that feeling. The sensation I got whenever I fixed something or someone. I pulled my body away. Looking at him in both shock and confuse.

Kai's eyes were closed, and he exhaled with a smile, as though rejuvenated.

"What... did I do?"

His eyes opened slowly as though he could taste the power swelling within his body.

"Motus!"

Kai rose both arms, the windows and doors opening, letting in heavy wind. I shielded my eyes with my forearm. He laughed maniacally; as though he couldn't believe what just happened. And if Kai, the crazy loony bin couldn't believe it, fat chance I could. His arms fell to his sides and the windows and doors closed.

I stared at him with eyes full or regret then to my hands. They trembled with both fear and hope. My powers were back. I couldn't believe it. Three desperate years of rage and solitude and with a few moments with a bastard like Kai they returned, easily.

"Take me home. I want to be away from here...away from you." I shook my head.

"C'mon Aurora, don't be like that. You helped me so why don't I make you something to eat as a thank you?"

"I'm not hun--"

Before I could finish my sentence my stomach roared with hunger. I looked up at him in front of me to see if he had noticed. Judging by his amused smile, he had. My face flushed into a light shade of pink. Damn. Was I always this bad at lying?

"Fine."

"Fine," he grinned.

̶̵H̵̶̶̵i̵̶̶̵s̵̶̶̵ ̵̶̶̵s̵̶̶̵m̵̶̶̵i̵̶̶̵l̵̶̶̵e̵̶̶̵ ̵̶̶̵w̵̶̶̵a̵̶̶̵s̵̶̶̵ ̵̶̶̵p̵̶̶̵e̵̶̶̵r̵̶̶̵f̵̶̶̵e̵̶̶̵c̵̶̶̵t̵̶. It had no meaning behind it. I was hungry and that was all. I rolled my eyes as he practically skipped to the kitchen. My lips curled upwards at the site.

The tense mood took a complete 360. Normal Kai wasn't half bad to be around. At least compared to psycho-no-self-control-at-all-crazy-bastard Kai. He was almost like a different person. Would it be bad if I said I liked this Kai? Or that this sociopath made me feel more at ease than when I was with Damon? With Damon everything felt against my will. I was forced into cars on multiple occasions and almost stuffed into his trunk for goodness sake!

"You sure look experienced." I nodded my head, signalling to the struggle he was having tying a cooking apron on.

"Contrary to popular belief, I can cook." He winked finally getting the knot tied behind him.

"If you say so." I casually walked over to the cabinets, looking around to see what he could possibly make.

"Pancakes?" he asked aloud. "Pancakes." he decided without giving me the chance to protest

"Yeah, considering all you have is pancake mix." I raised an eyebrow tossing him the box of Bisquick.

"Milk...milk... milk.. where'd I put the milk?" He checked the fridge to see it was empty.

"You mean this?" I held up an empty gallon of milk that was lying around in the sink with an empty glass.

"Right. Breakfast this morning." he snapped his fingers in realization.

I casually propped myself up to the island counter, watching him in amusement.

"Sorry Kai... I think we're better off calling outtakes or something." I smirked at the annoyed expression on his face and shrugged. "Maybe tomorrow? I mean after we go grocery shopping."

"So you'll stay?" his face almost looked as though it lit up.

"You promised me food, didn't you? Or are you taking that back?" I folded my arms.

"Outtakes. Got it." he winked reaching for the phone in his pocket.

"Give it!"

"Ah, ah, ah!" he waved a finger at me. "Finders keepers," he stuffed his face with the dumpling that he'd snatched from my hand. I shrugged using my chopsticks to steal some of his lo mein.

"Pay back's a bitch."

"What is that?" he pointed at the tv screen. He was more focused on learning what that mysterious new object was rather than fighting over some noodles.

"What is what?"

"That twirling thingy. What is it?"

"You mean the ferris wheel?" I scoffed almost choking on the lo mein. "You've never seen a ferris wheel before?" I laughed after swallowing.

"Is that even safe?" He folded his arms. "I mean look at that guy monkeying around. Is he even a vampire? He'll die if he fell from that thing."

"No, Kai. Noah isn't a vampire and yes they're perfectly safe as long as you aren't monkeying around." his innocence was funny. And kind of cute.

We watched some more of the Notebook before the lids of my eyes began to feel heavy. After being more than half-way through the movie, I began to nod off.

"Mmn." I groaned, opening my eyes.

I'd fallen asleep with the devil- my head rested on his shoulder. Our bodies close together on the living room sofa. I had no protection, completely vulnerable. Anything could have happened. And by that I mean Kai knifing me while I was asleep like he tried doing to his family. I found myself getting too close to the criminal.

"Shit. Shit. Shit."

I hastily got out of there, chewing on my nails from anxiety. Did that really just happen? I leaned in close, watching his face. He looked so innocent whilst he slept. As though he could do no harm to anyone in the world. As though, he was shielded from harm or pain in his sleep. He looked so peaceful in his current state. I bit my lip, at the sight. Get it together, Aurora. I tried shaking it off.

Last night was fun- sarcastic jokes and smiles but the real Kai was not that. Somehow, I didn't want to believe that. I anted to believe that there was a hint of goodness in him. But, I knew I shouldn't.

I sighed, taking a seat back on the couch when I felt something underneath the shabby quilt I was sitting on. I reached under it to find a newspaper.

"What's this...?" I read the article on the front cover; a boy named Malachai Parker who had murdered his family and another group of people close to his family. It sounded familiar to the story Kai had told me before. Too familiar.

"Malachai Parker?"

"Who names a kid Malachai? It's like they expected me to be evil." He says, yawning. I gasped from the scare.

"I didn't know you were awake..."

"Well, it's good that I am. Now I can go get ready for my merge, huh?" He stood, cracking his neck both sides.

Sorry for the short chapter guys!! Comment letting me know how you feel about it so far! I hope Kai isn't too much of a softie (yet). I want to make sure to have the two characters grow before we get real intimate (wink, wink!). Please, please, please let me know if you love it!
