3:45 To Liz: Hey Liz are you home yet? I text my best friend.
3:45 From Liz: Home soon, going out for dinner for mums birthday tonight xxx
"Hmmm." I let out a deep breathe that I didn't know I was holding. If only my life could be like Liz's. Even though she is my best friend I'm so jealous of her. I mean she gets what she wants and she so happens to be in the most perfect family ever. But money doesn't buy happiness right...?
3:47 From Liz: Just got home. Are you going to watch Home And Away tonight?
3:47 To Liz: 100% :) I texted her back.
As I'm sliding my phone back into my blazer pocket, I get the feeling that somebody is watching me. When I look behind, I see these sparkling green eyes staring through mine. When our eye lock he quickly looks out of the window, as if it never happened. He looks back towards me.
From what I can see this guy is wearing a pale cream knitted jumper and has a headband over his long curly hair. He gives me a smirk, his lips parting a little. This telling me that I must have been looking at him for longer then I thought. I turn around and look at my phone. Liz texted me saying that she will meet me tomorrow morning at the front of the school gates. After I text her back replying yes, I can't help myself and I look behind again.
When I turn back to look in his direction, he is just looking at me and his does not look away. I smile at him and he smiles back, then I turn back around to see where the bus is at.
The bus is passing through the local strip of Brunswick Street and I start to gather my belongings. I swing my heavy school bag over my shoulders and reach for the button to stop the bus at the next stop. When it stops I stand up and touch off my bus card. After I thank the driver I step off the bus the start to walk down a side street.
My school bag is weighing me down. Me thinking that the people that make the school bags put bricks at the bottom of them, just to makes our lives harder than they already are. All I have in my bag is my work notes and study books, yet it feels like it weighs over one hundred kg.
While I am walking down the beer neck of streets, I come aware that there is somebody behind me. Me being me I brush off the thoughts that I am being hunted down or followed and continue to walk.
As I turn around the block that is about four blocks away from my unit, I hear the footsteps becoming louder. I hear a deep sound of a male clearing his throat and it now feels like this person is becoming closer and closer to me every second.
I try to hurry up my speed of walking and seriously think of calling 000. I keep walking and hold my phone to my ear, hopping that the person behind me will back off as I am armed with all the contacts in the world. I feel my phone vibrate against my ear the answer it.
"Hello darling," My mum says through the other line.
"Yes mum?" I ask slowly.
"Just letting you know that I'm going to be home late because I am stuck at the hospital again." Nodding my head I say ok and end the call, knowing exacting why she is there again.
I continue walking down a street and see a very visible red door and our unit. I almost forget that this person is behind me and I don't even have the guts to see who it is.
I am so relieved to find myself near the stairs to the red door, but being pulled back a bit by my uncomfortable black school shoes rubbing against the sides of my feet. I stand here for one second not hearing anything around me. No foot steps following me or anything.
Just as I thought I hear the foot steps again and turn to my right to find the green eye boy walking up the stairs to the blue doored unit right next to mine. When I turn around he is also looking at me. A smile creeps onto his face, then vanishes after seconds. I get my feet back together and start walking up the stairs so that I am at the same level as him.
I open my mouth to say hi and break the awkward silence, but just when I am about to speak he opens the door to his unit and walks inside. Leaving me by myself. The curly haired, green eye boy must have been from the family that just bought the blue doored unit.
