Gotham City, 2029

Soon

Bruce looks at his watch. They should be here by now. The Cave is a bit crowded but it is safer here than anywhere else on the planet right now. Bruce is about to give up on them when he hears it.

BOOM!

Bruce exhales with relief as the blueish white tunnel of the Boom Tube opens and the last of the Resistance arrives. A man in a green combat suit with a large green hood and holding a compound bow, a blonde-haired woman in a worn black leather jacket over a black jumpsuit with dark gray stripes, and a dark-haired woman in a long dark purple coat holding a crossbow in one hand. In the other, she holds the cross that used to hang around her neck and mutters prayers. Bruce can't blame her. In fact, he is pleasantly surprised that despite everything that has happened, everything she's seen and done, Helena Bertinelli still hasn't lost her faith.

"I expected you two hours ago," Bruce says dryly and everyone looks uncomfortable except for the man in the hood.

"Well, we hit an obstacle. Turns out Star City isn't as safe as we thought. Cape-Killers and Parademons are everywhere and as if that wasn't enough, Desaad has perfected his new Meta-Parademons. Hal...didn't make it."

Bruce considers his words and sighs. "I'm sorry, Oliver."

He looks over at the others. Men and women he's known and fought alongside for years, as well as new people he's only gotten to know recently. Barbara is still here, sitting by the Batcomputer. Even after what the Joker did to her, she's always been a fighter, being just as deadly behind the keyboard as she was with her fists. Dick Grayson is still here, fighting the good fight as always. Damian is here, striving to be worthy of being his son, not realizing that Bruce has never not been proud of him. Cassandra is loyal to a fault and would never leave their side. But Roy isn't here and neither are Hal, Guy, Darla, Eugene, Pedro, Diana, Arthur... All of them have fallen. Even worse has happened to Billy and Mary. They've been exposed to the Equation and are now forced to serve the enemy. Just like...

"Bruce, it's now or never!" Barry says, having suddenly appeared along with Victor. "The convoy is almost here but we think... We think he's coming."

Bruce sighs. "You said you had two possible jump points?"

"That's right. I'd just planned on making the earlier one."

"Whichever one you pick, make sure you make it count. Convince me. I need to know what's going to happen."

Star City

20 minutes earlier

Oliver draws back his bow and looses an arrow as they fly off. The screeches of the Parademons fill the air as Hal continues to concentrate on maintaining the bubble keeping Oliver, Dinah and Helena safe and in the air.

"You got that thing working yet, Ollie?"

A loud PING comes from the Mother Box, answering Hal's question.

"Go ahead and use it, then."

"Not without you!" Oliver says angrily and Hal sighs.

"Tell Barry... Tell him I'll just have to pay him back those 50 bucks in the afterlife. Girls..."

Helena presses the button just as the bubble evaporates and a Boom Tube opens, beaming all three of them up.

"Hal, you motherfu-..." Oliver's voice is cut off as the Boom Tube closes and a hail of lasers hit Hal.

He shrugs it off like its nothing but then something fast flies towards him and hits him hard, sending him flying to the ground. He struggles to get up but someone steps on his hand. His ring hand. He screams in pain and he hears a sadistic chuckle.

"Sis, I do believe he's trying to get away," a man says in a sing-song voice. A woman giggles evilly and stomps on his shoulder. Hal can feel the joint pop as he looks up at the siblings. Their outfits are different, black instead of red, the white capes tattered and caked with blood. But the golden lightning emblem on their chests remains, a remnant of who they once were.

"I do believe you're right, little brother. We can't have that. We gave him a choice and he refused. So he must die. For Darkseid."

The man nods and laughs. "For Darkseid."

Both Marvels join hands and shout

"SHAZAM!"

The last thing Hal hears is the crack of thunder before two powerful bolts of lightning strike him. For an instant, he feels the jolt of a massive current run through him and smells his own skin and flesh cooking from the immense heat. Then everything goes black.
