Ask To Be Unbroken (Batfamily x reader)

Chapter 1: Prologue

AN: This is a trigger warning for the rest of the story! All chapters, but specifically, chapters 2 and 6 (I believe) feature some disturbing themes of violence, but to be fair, this is a DCU fic and it's about superheroes that have to fight villains so there's violence whether you like it, or not. But yeah to be specific, while also not trying to spoil a little plot point, the violence is done to a younger version of you. Also forgot to mention there are mentions of drugs because, in the comics, Jason Todd's mother is a drug addict. So you have now been warned.

*** 3rd POV

The rain was pelting against the blonde's skin. Her short six-year-old body was starting to shiver as the night breeze drifted past her and her older brother. She looked over to her brother, Jason, who was picking apart a nice-looking car, and she just admired how he worked. She didn't know much about how cars worked, or just about cars in general, but she did know how to remove tires and drive, but that's about it. Her brother on the other hand was amazing. He could take apart and put a car engine together within a few hours. She admired his skill, but she never bothered to try and learn it from him for fear of stealing his thunder. As he was working, she was on lookout duty, making sure no one would stop them, and making sure the owner of the car wouldn't return any time soon. When Jason finished getting a singular good part of the engine, the sister started hearing some loud thuds. She poked Jason to alert him but he told her to be quiet. Before she could even get the words out that the owner or someone was coming, they were already there. It was The Batman. The biggest, most powerful, and most menacing human in all of Gotham. Apart from the villains. The sister was scared because he looked like he would throw her back in an orphanage, but Jason looked happy to see him. This must have been planned and he didn't tell me... she thought to herself. Jason was remarkably smart, and he loved to show it off in front of her, and right now she was kind of upset at him. But luckily for them, she was the only one really mad at him. Batman had forgiven the two siblings for messing with his car, and for nothing in return, took them to his home and formally adopted them into his family, though not making them take his last name. Because Batman was Bruce Wayne, who was the richest human being living in Gotham at that moment.

Through the first few weeks of living in his house, he had asked the siblings many questions, starting with their names. It was just Jason and (Y/n) Todd. They had different mothers, a woman who was a scientist who practically disappeared off the face of the earth, and the other a drug addict who died many years ago. Their father was found in one of his files as someone who was working under Two-Face, but he was killed in a conflict. Bruce soon found out everything about these kids, like how they stole car parts, especially tires, for a living just so they wouldn't starve. Though when Jason had been caught by the police, (Y/n) was dragged to an orphanage. Neither of them talked about it, especially (Y/n). She refused to open her mouth. Eventually, the two got comfortable enough and felt at home with their new family. But not even a full year goes by, and Bruce recruits Jason as his next Robin. He thought that he was ready and that he was tough enough to train under him and take down villains. Jason was only twelve years old and (Y/n) was only seven, but she wanted the special treatment that her brother was getting. While she did get attention, she wanted it from the man that was supposed to be her new dad. She knew her dad was killed, but that didn't affect her at all, hell he was barely home for her to remember properly. Her mother thought her death affected her a lot. She found her body on the ground with all sorts of things she didn't know surrounding her, but she knew they were bad.

She just wanted someone to take care of her that wasn't Alfred. She did love Alfred, but she needed that true fatherly connection. She did also get that extra brotherly connection with Dick before he left the mansion. She loved Dick and how he would sometimes train her a little bit if he was unsure what to do with a small kid, and other times they would just go to a fair that would be in town. But Dick soon left, and (Y/n) was once again alone. She then started begging Jason to teach her what he had been learning, like how to fight, and how to defend herself. Jason thought his little sister, who he secretly vowed himself he would always protect, was getting picked on at school, and immediately agreed to teach his little sister in secret. He never knew the main reason why she wanted this, but he knew that she wouldn't stop until she got it. (Y/n) excelled in the martial arts that her brother taught her, and Bruce caught on fast. They would disappear quickly after dinner, and they wouldn't appear until Jason had to leave for patrol and (Y/n) had to go to bed. So after Jason being Robin for a few years, he finally allowed his daughter to dawn the cape and cowl as well as the new Batgirl, since Barbara had her "accident". It was hard for (Y/n) to force herself not to call Bruce "dad" when he was in the cape and cowl because she was practicing calling him dad for a long time. Now she had to majorly change the way she referred to her adopted father. But she eventually became an expert and became a great addition to the team. The three of them would go on patrol in the Batmobile, which always brought a goofy smile on (Y/n)'s face, as a reminder of how they met their adopted father and teacher.
