A FEW WEEKS LATER
Haeyeon's pov
For a moment I thought that I had become a workaholic because of all the load I've taken. I'm still deciding whether or whether not to take a loan from the bank.
It would be a faster method but I'm still doubtful about it. We had already taken loans in the past and just a few were left pending. Right now I've signed up for different works at different locations and I hope it will be enough to cover up for the cost soon.
My schedule has become so hectic that I sometimes forget have my meals and later I don't even have the appetite to eat anything.
Taesong had also started working for a convenience store and at a restaurant during the weekends. He was so stubborn about having more than one job that at the end I let him win the fight.
Sometimes he comes home late and studies till 2 am. I really feel bad for him and I wish he would leave these jobs as soon as possible.
Yesterday I got a call from the hospital giving a remainder that they need the money to proceed with the surgery otherwise father wouldn't last for long. Hearing this my eyes got teary but somehow controlled myself and told them I will do the payment soon.Yes it is true it is almost covered up. I just need a few more.
PRESENT TIME ~ AT THE CAFE
The lunch break was going on for the workers but I had lost my appetite again. I was not in the mood to talk with anyone so I decided to sit alone in the storage room until the break was over.
I was sitting on the floor with my knees up to my chest and my head down. I was sobbing quitly but then I heard someone calling me.
"Haeyeon ah where are you? Haeyeon? Oh there you- Haeyeon? " I heard Yujin coming closer to me but didn't lift my head up to see her.
"Hey what's wrong? Why are you crying?" Yujin asked and I could feel there was a hint of concern in her voice.
"Yujin I don't think I can do this anymore. I can't see my family struggling like this. It hurts me so much" I sobbed and lifted my teary face and Yujin immediately sat on her knees and embraced me in her arms.
She kept mumbling comforting words until I had calmed down. She kept rubbing my back and kept saying "Don't worry now. Everything is gonna be okay. I'm here for you. I've always got your back."
When I finally calmed down Yujin demanded an explanation about what was wrong and what happened. I told her everything from the start while staring at the floor.
When I was done saying, I looked at her. She looked at me back and sighed. But then to my surprise she smacked my arm hardly and yelled.
"Ya! If you were suffering like this at least you should have let me know. I would have helped you. How dare you to suffer alone like this! And also I'm letting our boss know so that he can give a raise or a bonus." She was flaring her nostrils like an angry bull. I wanted to laugh but I couldn't.
"I'm sorry, I didn't want to be a burden on you. You helped me a lot in the past and I wanted to figure this out on my own" I said with a frown on my face.
"You were and are never a burden to me you idiot! You are my best friend and that's what best friends do! We help each other right? You were there for me during tough times so obviously I'm gonna be here for you as well" she said as she comforted me while gently patting my back.
"Thanks Jin ah but I'm almost done saving the money so you don't need to help and please don't let know boss know about this" I requested with pleading eyes
"Why not?"
"Well I don't wanna bother him" I replied.
"I wouldn't be bothered to help you Haeyeon" said an old hoarse voice not so far away from us.
We both looked at each other for a sec before turning our heads towards where the voice was coming from. Our boss was standing at the door of the storage room. We both stood up quickly and bowed at him.
"What are you doing here boss?" Yujin finally asked.
"I was just passing by and I heard your conversation but I didn't mean to eavesdrop" he blurted out. I had a doubt about that because I knew boss was interested in gossips.
"And Haeyeon take your bonus after your shift is over and you can't say no. We all are praying for your father to get better" he told.
I just nodded quickly with happy tears streaming down my face and kept bowed continuously. "Thank you so much boss! I will never forget your help for saving my dad" I said.
"Yeah yeah and you should eat more cause you look like a skeleton" and with that he left. I just couldn't be happier anymore and I excitedly hugged Yujin.
"Finally someone is happy now" Yujin chuckled and I nodded like a child.
"You were worried about nothing. See I knew boss would be happy to help you but you were here crying like a kid and were making assumptions."
"Stop teasing me and yeah you were right. Silly me." I giggled
"C'mon let's go to eat because you are worse than a skeleton " she said holding my hand.
"Yeah let's go" I excitedly beamed as they left together.
Time SkipAfter my shift got over I started to get ready to go the hospital. The bonus that boss gave was enough to cover the remaining expenses.
I happily got in her car and started to drive towards Seoul National University Hospital with a smile on my face. The wait is finally over now.
You don't have to worry anymore dad. Just focus on getting your health better and come home with us as quickly as possible. I'll be waiting for you.
And I hope you will also become a better person by heart.
