The death of a star

As far as the memories go
I look at the sky
There, high in the corner
A star twinkles,
Presence steady as ever
It makes me smile.

Years pass, milestones pass
Memories pass but it stays steady as ever
The light may dim, but then it goes bright as ever
Your presence was always as steady as ever

Day and night, calm and storm, everything was cloudy but i saw a faint outline, a shine, it made me cry tears of relief
You were just as steady as ever.

But on a pleasant autumn day, the light gave away
There was a flicker, then two, till the light, was no longer there.

Frightened as a fumbling fawn, i search the sky again and again, but not a single sign of your steady presence, was there as it was always.

The death of a star, was never as dramatic as they made it in the fairytales she recited while gently caressing my cheeks.
No one cried, no one noticed, I guess it was just me.
Just me who saw the sky dim, with the absence of it's brightest star.
Only me who mourned the loss, the death of a shining star.

But then I notice, though subtle, a halo, right by my heart,
I feel the warmth, the safety, the love that you gave me from the start.

A silent promise that was never broken, silent words that were never lies, your presence will always be in my heart, just as steady as ever.
