Light streamed through my window, waking me up. I groggily opened my eyes and rubbed them with my fist. To tired and lazy to do much else I just flopped back down on the bed and grabbed my phone. I checked the messages, but was too lazy to reply to any of them. So I just resorted to scrolling through my facebook news feed until I realized that it was 9:30. Scheiße. Scheiß.Scheiße. (Shit, shit, shit.) I frantically thought as I jumped out of bed. I threw my messy, dark brown bed head hair into a bun and I quickly ran over to my still un- packed suit case and grabbed my bathroom bag and quickly headed to the bathroom.
I came out in a record time of 10 minutes and still managed breath I could stand, a clean face and my usual tiny bit of mascara, not to mention I tamed my wild hair into it's usual long and wavy look. I calmly walked back over to my room and started pulling apart my suitcase, throwing random articles of clothing everywhere until I found something of my interest to wear. I eventually settled on a pair of vintage wash skinny jeans and a simple black racer back tank top with my favorite bird necklace.
I hopped down the stairs, in a surprisingly good mood. Rounding the corner into the kitchen, I was expecting James or Lisa or even Derek to be there. Was expecting. But it was empty. I saw a piece of paper on the counter and picked it and read it.
Annika,
We went to work so we won't be home until dinner. See you soon and hopefully Derek will show you around Texas!

Na dann. Ein Tag mit meinem Lieblings-Person verbracht. (Well then. A day spent with my favorite person.) I sighed, not sure of exactly what to do. They didn't show me where any of the food was and I didn't exactly feel comfortable searching through their cabinets.
A couple minutes passed of just standing there and I couldn't take it. I was getting so bored. I finally crack and started searching until I found some bread. I then started looking through the refrigerator until I found some strawberry jam. It wasn't the best breakfast I have ever had, since the bread was unnaturally white and the strawberry jam was too pink and too sweet, but it was okay. Luckily, when I was putting my dishes in the dish washer, Derek stumbled into the kitchen, still half asleep but dressed and looked slightly presentable. Wow I can't believe that I was actually happy to see that boy.
"Hey today I'm hanging out with my friends that you met yesterday, you want to come? I'm sure Andrea would like another girl to be there." Derek said getting himself a glass of juice. Also das ist die, dass Mädchen ist. (So that's who that girl is.)
"Why not." I said. It's not like I had anything better to do, and anyway that guy yesterday was nice, maybe he would be there.
"Okay good, we leave in 10."
"Okay." I said heading back upstairs. Once I was in my room, I put on a little bit more mascara, and spritzed on a little perfume before slipping on my pair of beat up red converse. I fluffed my hair slightly and messed it up a bit. With a bit of time to spare and decided to text back Mattis and Sarah along with a couple of my other good friends.
"Annika ready?" I half shrieked and jumped, not hearing or expecting Derek to be ready. He chuckled, obviously pleased with himself even though it wasn't on purpose.
"Yes I am ready." I hissed standing up and shoving my phone in my back pocket and took one last look in the mirror.
"And if you were wondering, you look great."
"Um thanks." I said rolling my eyes. It's not like his compliment meant much to me anyway. We headed out the door and down the steps. Derek grabbed a skate board and then handed one to me.
