It had been two weeks sense Buddy last saw Lily. They were not letting her out or letting him in and he didn't know why. He really wanted to see her again. Her smile. Her eyes. He couldn't seem to think of a way. Buddy had to get her out of that dreadful orphanage, so he spoke to his parents.
Buddy sat at the dining table and his mother, Kendall Pines, sat a plate of pasta and broccoli in front of him. His mom was an amazing cook. The flavors she used always blended so well together. His father, Paul Pines, sat at the head of the table. His plate was considerably larger than Buddy's.
Buddy's parents were still very much in love. They wanted another child but with his father being a fire fighter and his mother's busy work schedule they didn't have time for a baby.
At dinner they laughed and snickered at each other, and talked about what a great son they had.
'I'm not that great,' Buddy thought as he smiled to himself. He then began to think about his Lily. He hoped she was alright.
"Something seems to be troubling you, what is it son," Buddy's father spoke, shoving food into his mouth.
Kendall being a worried mother rushed to her son's side and started to poke and touch him, analyzing her son thoroughly. "Are you hurt? Are you sick? What's wrong with my boy?"
"Mom I'm fine," Buddy said laughing at his mother's over exaggerations, "You can go sit back down." Buddy paused for a while and spoke again, "I met a girl a while ago." Both his parents froze at this. "She is an orphan, her name is Lily. She's three years younger than me. I helped her one day when I was coming home, she was being bullied. I walked her to the orphanage. But now they won't let her out or me in and I really want to see her again." His parents gave each other agreeing looks then smiled at their son.
"Me and your father have been wanting another child," his mother spoke calmly.
This was new news to Buddy, but good news.
"If you would like Buddy, we can go to the orphanage tomorrow morning and adopt her," his father stated.
This made Buddy very happy. Not only was he going to be able to see Lily again, but she would be his forever and no one could ever take her from him. The Pines went to bed early that night so that they may get up first thing in the morning. Buddy could barely sleep he was so excited.

"What a gloomy place," Buddy's mother spoke as they reached the grey doors of the orphanage. They stepped inside and Buddy's parents went to the front desk. Buddy himself took a look around. In one corner was a chair and over it was a sign that read "Time Out". In another corner were things the children wrote on the walls. "Mud" "Dirty Child". He knew they were talking about Lily and this angered him.
As his parents were filling out the paper work, all the children ran downstairs except for his Lily. He assumed she didn't come down with the others because she had already lost hope of anyone coming to get her. All the other kids were certain that one of them were going to be picked today, but they were wrong.
"Come here darling," Buddy's mother called to him. He approached her and she wrapped her arm around him, "Which girl is it," she asked him quietly. As he was about to answer he heard more foot steps and looked to the stairs. There she was and as tiny as ever.
"That's her right there, on the stairs," Buddy said. He walked away from his mother and she ran to him.
"Buddy!" Lily jumped into his arms and he caught her with ease. "What are you dong here," she asked, looking him dead in the eye.
He whispered in her ear, "My parents are here to adopt you Lily," he froze and looked at her again, "You're going to be my sister."
Lily's eyes filled to the brim with tears that spilled down her cute little cheeks. Buddy kissed her tears away and she smiled at him. He'd really missed her smile.
The other children scoffed at her. Buddy put her down and held her hand as they walked over to the front desk with his parents. They would be her parents too in matter of minutes.
While the other kids rolled their eyes and sucked their teeth, Buddy and Lily played and laughed. She would jump on his back and he would give her piggy-back rides. He even danced with her and played with her hair briefly. Eventually his parents were done with all of the paper work, they looked at Lily, very happy to see her for the first time.
"Are you sure that is the child you want," Mrs. croft said in her judgmental voice.
Buddy heard this and looked at Mrs. Croft in that way again. It was that look that made Lily a little frightened of him. Lily held his arm tightly as he tensed in anger.
"Yes we are sure," Buddy's father said crossly as Mrs. Croft was stiff with fear. Paul took Buddy's shoulder and Lily's tiny hand while Kendall walked behind them.
The ride home was great. First Kendall and Paul talked about how rude that lady was to their new child. Then they asked Lily about her time there in the orphanage and what kind of things she liked. It made Buddy happy to see his Lily smiling. The rest of the ride home was quiet and Buddy slid his hand across the middle seat to hold Lily's tiny hand. He didn't ever want to let her go.
