Fumbling with the keys, Billie's tired hands searched for the right key before sliding it into the lock. The door clicked open, creaking quietly as she slipped inside. She kicked off her shoes, nonchalantly throwing her back pack on the floor.

Turning to head to the kitchen, guilt stabbed at her heart when she noticed her girlfriend slumped over her books and laptop, sleeping. Billie walked over to her, now seeing the two empty mugs next to her on the table, which she assumed were filled with coffee before she arrived. She hated seeing her lover like this, and a small part of her blamed herself for it.

"Oh, y/n" she whispered, tucking a small piece of hair out of the sleeping girls face. She pressed a gentle kiss to her temple. She carefully slid her arms under her girlfriend, with the hope she might be able to carry her to their bedroom without waking her up. The woman stirred in her sleep, hands going up to rub her sleepy eyes.

"Huh? What time is it?" she muttered. Billies arms abandoned y/n. Both of them looked at the clock. It was half past midnight. Billie let out a shaky breath.

"You know," y/n laughed, but the situation was humorless. "I stayed up hoping I would see you before I went to sleep." her half lidded eyes were painted with a sadness that would ruin any piece of art. Billie looked down in shame. "I kept myself busy too." she eyed the papers scattered on the table. She chewed on the inside of her cheek, playing with her fingers in her lap. "But uh, you know," y/n chuckled lightly, her tone filled with nothing but disappointment.

Billie had spent an excessive amount in the studio, leaving early in the morning, and coming back late at night. Y/n couldn't even remember the last time they had a long conversation face to face, yet alone shared a meal together. Y/n wished she could say at least they slept in the same bed, even if it was only for a few hours before Billie got up for work again. But half the time Billie wouldn't even bother going to the bedroom, and often passed out on the couch.

The only thing that kept her distracted was school work, but her arduous relationship at home was becoming mentally and physically draining, and she began to slack off on her assignments too.

The two women once helplessly in love, now distant; the only thing connecting them was their shared apartment. Even their own space of living, precisely designed to hold comfort and coziness, was dark and cold.

Home didn't feel like home.

The house filled with silence. If you listened hard enough perhaps you'd hear the echoing thoughts racing both their heads.

Billie was first to speak.

"I'm so fucking sorry y/n," she said. Her voice wasn't confident; from the way it cracked it was clear the apology was genuine. They met each other's eyes; once alive with color, now dying without it. This rough spot has taken a toll on both of them, and the dark circles and pale complexion just further proved that point.

Billie missed the taste of her partner's lips; the feeling of her skin beneath her fingertips; the smell of y/n's shampoo lingering in the air after she showered. She missed their mornings, waking up tangled in the sheets and each other's bodies. She wanted nothing more than to kiss and touch every part of her girlfriends body, apologize for every single second too long she spent at the studio. Hell, she'd get on her knees to do it if  y/n told her too. She missed the full feeling inside her heart of loving someone so much that you'd scream it out into the world.

She pulled up a chair and sat down in front of    y/n. She took y/n's hands in her own, her thumbs brushing over her knuckles. Y/n filled with warmth at the familiar feeling.

"Listen..." her voice was soft and assuring. "I'll take a week off, angel. A month if you want me to. I'll make you breakfast every morning, and I'll take you out on a date every week and we'll do whatever you want. I'll talk to my managers and we'll fix my schedule. I'll make my hours shorter baby, I promise." Her eyes filled with tears.
"And I-I'll come home every day at a normal time a-and we'll talk about our day and have dinner..." tears were streaming down billies face now.

"Billie, relax," y/n wiped her face with her thumbs. "Breathe, baby."

"I'm sorry," her lover whispered. "I'm so sorry. I'll do anything to fix it."
"I know Billie," y/n cupped billies face. "I forgive you baby." Billie nodded frantically.
"Take a few days off, for you. You're tired and overworked, Billie. We both need a break." She gave her a look of empathy. "And you don't have to do all that baby. Just make time for me during the day. I feel like I never see you anymore." Y/n caressed the side of the raven's face.

"God I forgot how beautiful you are," Billie gushed, the words coming out as a broken sob. Even after all this time, a compliment from her girlfriend never fails to make y/n blush, and it isn't long before she has Billie in a tight embrace.

When the two women pull away, they connect their lips in a passionate kiss. Both of them had missed this feeling so much, they couldn't help but smile into each others lips, letting out a sigh of relief. They'd been so caught up in being away from each other, that they've forgotten how great it felt to be in each others arms again. Desperate to make up for the weeks of absence and deprivation of physical touch, their hands roam each other's bodies, but not in a sexual way. They just want to feel; enjoy each other's presence.

"Let's go to bed," Billie mumbled against y/n's lips.

Y/n got up and gathered her papers and books into a neat pile on the table, while Billie put the mugs in the sink and rinsed them with water.
Together, they went to the bathroom to brush their teeth, and wash of their makeup. They changed in silence, eagerly getting into bed and under the covers. Y/n and Billie snuggled up together as much as their bodies would let them, their legs tangled with one another. Y/n grabbed Billie's hand, intertwining their fingers. She kissed the back of Billie's palm, and nuzzled her face into her girlfriend's neck.

"We've been living here together and yet I missed you so much," Billie whispered, stroking y/n's hair.
"I missed you too. You don't even know," y/n's voice sent vibrations across Billies skin.

"Good night y/n. I love you so much."
"I love you too, angel. Good night." They shared a final kiss before drifting off to sleep, enveloped in each other's love.
