IT'S wednesday morning at 7:50 a.m., and all that's heard in the hallway of ridgeview high school is the squeaking of people's wet shoes dragging across the floor and subtle conversations amongst students. i have my wired headphones in playing "sparks" by "coldplay" but i can still hear the hallways around me. music was something that had always brought a feeling of comfort to me. my dad had taught me how to play guitar over the years and i've taken singing lessons. i like the way playing music makes me feel. i don't think i could go a day without listening to my music.

i walk over to my locker and put my backpack on my feet leaning up against the locker so my backpack isn't touching the floor. i enter my combination and set the lock inside my locker. just before i am able to pick my backpack up, i hear esme talking to her boyfriend hudson behind me. they had been together for some time now. they got together during the summer before sophomore year, now it's the middle of senior year and they're as in love as ever. when i turn around i see the two holding hands. i'm glad that esme found someone to give her an example of what love felt like. her life before hudson was nothing short of twisted. we've been friends since sixth grade, right after she moved. i still remember her with her high ponytail and librarian glasses. i had asked her if she wanted play with me during recess. 6 years later and it remains to be the best decision i have ever made in my life.

"hey esme, hey hudson." i say turning back around to put my backpack in my locker but something, or someone, catches my attention as i see him walking over here.

i've had a crush on noah thatcher for about 2 months. we first met in the park when i was reading by a tree and his dog got excited and ran over to me. we had talked for a while about what we liked to do and where we liked to go. i see him in school every once in a while as he's friends with hudson. noah's tall, about 6'3 and one of the most beautiful boys i have ever seen in my life. he has green eyes with blue rims, dark chocolate hair which slightly curls that falls all around his head just barely covering his eyes.

before anyone notices me looking at him, i turn around and finally get my backpack into my locker, pull my books out for ap anatomy, and take my headphones out.

"hey guys, hey josephine." i hear a guys voice behind me. not hudson's, definitely not esme's. here we go.

"hey noah." i mutter out after softly closing my locker and turning around, finally looking into his eyes.

~switch from josephine's pov to noah's pov for a quick minute~

there she was. josephine barlowe. i have never met someone so enchanting. bright green eyes, glowing red hair, long eyelashes. she was the very definition of beauty. she had a nose stud on the right side of her nose and earrings all along her ears that you could see when she tucked her hair behind her ear.

we officially met about two months ago, but i had seen her in the school hallways thousands of times and i was always amazed by her. when i walk past her i can smell her vanilla and coconut perfume. when i'm in the cafeteria, i can see her smile and laugh. we face each other but a few tables apart. any guy would be lucky to have her by his side, lord knows i wanted to be that guy.

when i hear her say my name, i get a funny feeling in my stomach. i have never been the type of guy who likes to sleep around with a different girl every few days, i actually have only been in one relationship you could count as a relationship.

"hey noah" she's says back to me and all i can do is smile at her but i can't look away. until a hand is waving between me and her, breaking the gaze. how long did i look at her?

~back to josephine's pov now~

while he was looking at me, i began to lose my train of thought. suddenly i gain it back when instead of noah's eyes i see, i see hudson's hand waving up and down to get our attention and we both look at hudson. at this point all i could do was softly laugh and begin to walk away when i hear esme and hudson say goodbye to each other and esme come up next to me. how long did i look at him?

"um what was that?" esme asks grabbing onto my sleeve.

"nothing." i respond looking straight ahead, scared that if i look at her i'll smile.

"nothing, my ass. it looked like he was 2 seconds away from kissing you." esme smart-mouthed.

"it did not. he was just looking at who he was talking to, like you're doing to me right now." i tell her and out of the corner of my eye i can see her shake her head and smile as she left my side walking into her first period. i keep walking while i try to put what just happened behind me and go on with my day.

~and now back to noah's pov. there's going to be lots and lots of switching pov's in this story so please bare with me~

when josephine and esme leave i'm pulled backwards by my backpack, stopping me from watching josephine walk away.

"can i come with you after lunch to pick an engagement ring?" hudson asked me standing on his toes to whisper in my ear before i push his face away and laugh. "you know she's like the second prettiest girl who goes to ridgeview right? i didn't even know you guys knew eachother besides from me and es."

"we met eachother a couple months ago at the park on deadwood. she was reading by a tree and cooper got to her."
