Kagome's pov

It's been a couple of days since our return back to the village. Currently, I was getting fresh water for Kagami to cool down her fever. I went back inside with the bucket and a clean rag, placing it down next to her body. "Has her fever gone down at all?"

"No, it doesn't look like it'll go away anytime soon," Miroku stated with furrowed brows.

After the fight with Kazuto, Miroku was feeling alright after being healed and having a few hours of rest. However, Kagami fainted with a high fever. It was difficult carrying her back to the village due to her temperature...

~Flashback~

After overusing her spiritual powers, Kagami collapsed from exhaustion. Everyone, except for one, was quick to her side as they all called out her name in hopes of getting a response. "Kagami? Kagami, can you hear me?!" Kagome shouted.

Shippo went over to touch her only to reel back in pain. "Ow, her body is hot!"

"She's burning up! We have to take her back to the village immediately!" Myoga said in a frenzy.

As everyone continued to panic over their ill friend, Inuyasha silently made his way over, expression blank. "Inuyasha?"

"Step aside," he murmured, walking past them. The half-demon didn't hesitate as he picked her up with ease, however, there were faint traces of steam coming from his hands.

"Inuyasha your hands..." Kagome mumbled in concern.

He didn't say a word or reacted at all. Instead, he walked away, carefully carrying Kagami in his arms as his face expressed deep conflict.

~Flashback end~

Her body cooled down after a few hours but her fever remained. None of the medicine I had seemed to work.

"It's been two days already. I'm worried." Shippo sulked, sitting beside Kagami.

"We all are Shippo, but all we can do now is tend to her and wait," Miroku said.

Sango was petting Kirara with a look of concern as she turned to me. "Is Inuyasha still gone?"

I slowly nodded as I placed the damp rag on top of her forehead. "Mhm."

Yesterday he stayed by her side until her body cooled off. His hands were slightly burned so I had to bandage them but after I was done he left and hasn't been back since.

"That idiot, how could he run off all of a sudden when Kagami is like this?!" Shippo shouted in frustration.

"It can't be helped, Shippo. Out of any of us, he must be taking it the hardest." Sango said with a sad frown. "He must be so upset."

"I wonder where he could have gone." Miroku thought, aloud.

There was that bitterness again. I shouldn't be feeling this way when she's suffering. I tightly held her warm hand close to my chest as I sent a small prayer to the gods up above. Please wake up soon...

I sat on the edge of the well with my backpack as I turned to look back at Sango. "I'm going back home to find better medicine for her."

"Will you be okay Kagome? You just seem down ever since we came back." She said with a worried gaze.

I nodded, not wanting to concern her anymore. "Yeah, I'm fine. I'll be leaving now."

After giving my goodbyes I jumped into the well going back to the present. For a moment I sat there deep in thought

"Haah why am I like this?" My best friend is unconscious and all I can think about is Inuyasha leaving. I climbed out of the well as I sluggishly walked to my home. When I walked inside I was greeted by my mom and grandpa. "Oh, Kagome you're back!"
