As a twenty-three year old MFA student I was always watching and critiquing movies. I wanted nothing more in life than to become an actress. When I first watched the trailer for Wakanda Forever I was emotional, nostalgic, proud, etc. I counted down the days until I could experience it in theaters on November 11th, 2022.

Just as I began to get lost in my thoughts,
my best friend, Allison, called distracting me immediately. "Y/N!!!!" she screamed into my ear causing me to move the phone away from my face. Flinching I slowly raised the phone back to my ear fearful of another loud interjection. "Yes bestie?," I asked extremely confused. "I take it that you haven't been on social media today?!" I didn't need to hear anything else. I put her on speaker and clicked on Instagram. The very first post I saw explained why she was so loud and excited. The official Wakanda Forever IG page posted instructions for a contest to win an all expenses paid trip to the Hollywood premiere and a chance to meet all of the cast and crew. Before I could react or even speak she blurted out, "I ENTERED IT FOR THE BOTH OF US." We both burst out laughing and continued our conversation catching up on the week that we both had.

*Two Weeks Later*

Since this was my final semester of my MFA program, I was always working on my thesis and looking at gigs for post-grad. The spare time I did have was spent on Tiktok interacting with other BP fans and of course running a fan page. A lot of my edits had received hundreds of thousands of likes and comments and even had gotten reposted by Lupita and Winston. It had been exactly two weeks since the contest opened and I was hoping to hear something by now. I hastily checked my email and socials on a fixed schedule so I wouldn't miss any notifications whatsoever.

I decided to give my phone a break and finish up an application for a casting call. About thirty minutes later I heard my email notification ding and my eyes darted towards my phone immediately. I grabbed my phone, heart racing, palms sweating, and read the email...

"Congratulations Y/N! You have been selected as the Wakanda Forever Press & Premiere Fan Winner."

I could not believe the words I was reading. I clicked the link to accept the offer and input my personal information. I then finished reading the email and became even more flustered by the information...

"You and a +1 of your choosing will receive an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles, California to attend two press days with backstage access and the world premiere of Wakanda Forever. Roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations, roundtrip transportation, meals/beverages, and wardrobe will all be provided."

I dialed Allison as soon as I read +1. She screamed even louder this time around hearing the news, and we began to plan for this experience.

*Two Weeks Later*

Today was the day! I left home around 12pm to pick up Allison and travel to the airport. The flight was scheduled for 2:45pm central time and was a four hour ride. They sent the itinerary for this weekend while we both sat at the gate waiting to board. It read that we would be picked up by a limo and taken to our hotel. That evening would be fittings for our premiere outfits with our stylist, and dinner with the cast & crew. Today would be very eventful, and quite frankly I was nervous. I thought about how i'd react to meeting everyone, and once I started thinking about Letitia I felt butterflies form in my stomach. Yep, I was deep under her spell just like the rest of the world. I know meeting her will have me shaking in my boots.
