I stare at the ceiling, listening to the radio static. I've got nothing better to do. I'm stuck in my room, grounded for getting home past curfew. So now I'm laying on my bed, listening to static, trying not to think about how anxious I am to get out of this room.

Over the static, I hear tapping on my window.  I look up to see Spot behind the glass.

I jump up and open the window, and I can't help but smile. "Spot, what is this, Nightmare on Elm Street? Am I gonna get murdered later?" I whisper at him. He props himself up on my window sill.

"Hey, there ain't nothin' wrong with a cliché if it works," He says with a grin. "I just wanted to see how you was doin'. Haven't talked much since we faced off last football game."

"I've been trying to find an excuse to see you. Maybe I'll just have to join baseball."

"Maybe."

I give him a hand and help him inside.

"...I've missed you" He says quietly.

"I know. I've missed you too." I lean into him, our heads close. And I kiss him. It never stops blowing my mind how awesome it feels to kiss him. I know that I shouldn't. I know it's not normal. But I don't care. I don't care that the window is open and that my parents are across the hall.

I just kiss him and everything goes away.

"I love you, Racetrack Higgins."

"I love you too Spot," I say laughing under my breath.

He smiles. "What?"

"Even when you're being romantic, you still call me by that stupid nickname. "

"Well, I did say it'd stick, didn't I?"

"You did," I say.

We lay down on the bed, his head resting on my chest. I twirl his hair with my fingers. Everything is right with the world.

We lay like that for hours, and we drift off to sleep. Just the two of us.

I wake up to my alarm blaring at me. I smack it with me hand, and Spot jumps up from my chest.

"FUCKING HELL."

He hops on one foot, struggling to get his shoes back on. "What time is it?"

"6? I forgot to turn off the alarm last night."

"For once your God-awful memory came in handy," Spot say, finally tying his left shoe.

He rushes opening the window, but pauses at the sill before climbing all the way down.

"I'll see you soon, okay?"

"I love you," I say.

He kisses me on the cheek, and rushes off into the dark, morning air.
