I ran to my room with the two books in my hands containing the family history of what I had discovered. I shut the door and dropped the books on my bed as I tripped over my own feet, I looked up seeing my luck was I landed on the bed with the books scattered in front of me. I pushed myself up on my hands and knees to sit up and gathered the books opening them up and reading them. I was examining the articles and the different pictures and information when my phone rang and it had Harrison's name.
I hesitated at first but eventually accepted the call seeing Harrison's face turn up on the screen, "hey what are you up to gorgeous?" He asked smiling at me. "I'm looking at this books" i said showing him the covers and he tensed, "why do you look tense?" I asked and he tried to hide it after I asked. "It's nothing gorgeous" he said and I looked at the pages turning them and opening up the various letters. I skim read the letters coming across the last name Quentin, I looked up at camera through the phone screen and he smiled awkwardly. "Um Harrison I was talking to my uncle and he sounded very suspicious about you" i said and he seemed to laugh it off, "your uncle and I've never met him" he said laughing nervously. "Why do you sound nervous?" I asked and looked at me with a soft smile.
"I'm only nervous around you gorgeous because you make me nervous" he replied and I raised an eyebrow. "Murder of Irene Ryhill" I mumbled and I guess Harrison heard me because he quickly made an excuse before hanging up. "Okay bye then" I said and got back to reading the information on the case that had more newspaper clippings than the other things in these books.
On the evening July 4th,
24 year old heiress Irene Ryhill wife of Oliver Quentin was murdered in a cross fire between the conflict of two men in an exchange gone horribly wrong. One witness said they heard crying and screaming of a little boy as well as a woman after the gunshots rang out. Police are looking into the possible suspect known by the name Ernest Delarouche and his accomplice.I finished reading the small article and looked at the photos given to the media of this Ernest guy. I flipped the page reading another article that was again about Ernest only it mentioned another death.
Police are looking into the suspicious death of Joseph Delarouche before ruling the possible case of suicide after his body was found under Liam's Mellows bridge. The weapon used is yet to be recovered and Ernest Delarouche is being looked into as a possible suspect in the killing after escaping federal custody in August of 1986 seven years prior to the murder of Irene Ryhill. Ernest is wanted however presumed dead after a severed leg was found floating in the river DNA tests showed that it matched to Ernest.
The more I read the more I tried to put the pieces together as to what type of family I was born into and why my mother changed her name. I tried to call back Harrison but he kept declining my calls, did I do something wrong for him to be ignoring me. I closed one of the books but kept reading the letters that were addressed between my uncle James and Ernest, but who was Ernest. I shook my head and unfolded one letter reading it when I heard two pops, my body jumped at the sound and I left my room sneaking out to see what was happening. I finally registered the sound I heard was a gunshot and I carefully went to sneak out and down the stairs.
"Where is she?" I heard a man ask, and i faintly heard uncle James's voice and he sounded like he was struggling. I went back in the study looking around seeing a desk and opening the draws until I found a semi automatic pistol with the bullets scattered around it. I grabbed a handful of bullets in a hurry dropping one as I tried loading the gun. I walked out still hearing the commotion down stairs and walked with the gun in my hands, my hands trembled and each step I took was shaky. The closer I got and the more I could hear the shouting and the sound of kicks, I lightly had my finger on the trigger and when I looked around the corner getting closer I saw three men, one man was toned, tall and slim, the other was built with muscle and a little shorter around 5'9 and the third man was around 6'0 with a slim build and lightly toned with a light tan. I heard the gun click as i held the gun up realising the trigger hearing the shot ring out and hitting the man who was 6'0 in the shoulder. I fired a second shot hitting the man who was 5'9 hitting him in the side with a second shot.
The third man fleed out of the house ditching the car they supposedly came in and took off on foot. I looked over seeing the flash on the house alarm going off and minutes later I heard sirens, I dropped the gun on the steps running down and cradling my uncles head in my lap. I saw the sirens on the police cars coming closer as well as the ambulance. I saw officers rush out and run past me and arresting the two injured man putting them in handcuffs before putting them on stretchers to take them to the hospital. Police spoke to me and I confessed to shooting and they reassured me they weren't going to charge me but needed me down at the police station for questioning.
They took uncle James to the hospital and there was media outlets all surrounding the street wanting pictures. I had several reporters run up to me hounding me with questions as the police shielded me. I got into the car with a blanket wrapped around me and sat there as the car drove off leaving the scene and when I looked out the window I saw my uncle being lifted onto a stretcher and wheeled into the ambulance. "Is he going to be okay?" I asked and a women police officer reassured me he was as she sat with me in the back seat. At the station I gave my statement and told them what I heard and saw as well as what I was doing and they took my fingerprints too before letting me go and Sebastian was waiting for me as well as Tamika.
When I got out Tamika ran up to me giving me a massive hug and I definitely needed it as I hugged her back. Apparently we were allowed at the house but I needed to stay in the servants quarters until the investigation was done. "Do you think Is was an assasination attempt?" Sebastian asked as he left the police station. "Who would want to do that though?" I asked and rested my head on Tamika's shoulders, "someone who wants to take down the family I presume" Sebastian answered in a whisper.
