"Last call for Flight 407."
The monotone voice of the teleprompter rang across the airport lobby, causing Luke to snap out of his trance. He was reading a comic Ashton had suggested a few days ago and made a mental note to thank Ash for the recommendation - even if he nearly missed his flight because of the story.
He slung his luggage over his shoulder, the comic still in his hand. Luke walked as fast as he could, nearly colliding with a man and his baby. Single parent, Luke thought, sympathizing with the stranger. He looked exhausted. The baby looked like they were around four months old, and they looked slightly in pain, so Luke figured they must have been teething.
Luke remembered when his kid Maia had gone through that, luckily not crying as much. He smiled a little when he remembered his little girl, back at Sydney with her uncle Ashton. He was so fucking excited to see his girl again.
When Luke managed to get through the terminal, he quickly sat down on his seat and brought out his comic again. Barely getting through a page, he saw the stranger from earlier, his baby more calm and happier than they had been earlier. He watched the pair as they sat on their assigned seats, which were beside Luke. The stranger nodded a greeting to Luke, which he returned.
The baby was staring up at Luke with their wide eyes, their tiny hands pawing at Luke's sweatshirt. Luke crossed his eyes and stuck out his tongue, making the baby laugh and the stranger to turn to him. It was only then that Luke realized how cute the guy was, despite his rather unusual appearance.
He had blue hair, for one. Even more unusual though was how he was able to pull it off. The stranger had piercing green eyes, which his kid had clearly inherited, and he had fucking eyebrow piercings. He had a pretty cute smile, too; the crinkles forming around his eyes made it even cuter.
"He likes you already," the stranger commented, his smile widening. He held out a hand and added, "Michael."
"Luke." After they shook hands, the baby clapped his hands together as if demanding they look at him. Luke laughed and said to Michael, "He's really energetic, eh?"
"Jesus Christ, you have no idea," Michael replied, looking at his son, who was trying to crawl towards Luke, fondly. "He fu-freaking cries like - like, uh - "
"Like something really loud and annoying?" A smile started to creep its way on Luke's lips.
"Yeah," Michael said, grinning, watching Luke play with the baby.
Luke stuck out his tongue at the kid which produced a laugh. "What's his name?"
Michael re-adjusted his baby's cap. "Josh." He raised his hand to the kid, as if for a high five, which made Josh giggle and pressed his two hands against Michael's. The blue haired man grinned and added, "At first I thought I was going to name him after Billie Joe - the front man of Green Day? - " Luke nodded and urged him to continue, "And then I just said, nah, he's clearly a Josh."
"You like Green Day?" Luke asked. He couldn't say he was that surprised, if he was being honest.
Michael nodded excitedly, his grin widening. "Oh, fuck yeah." Realizing what he said, he flashed a panicked look at Josh, who was just staring at him and smirking, as if he understood what his dad had said.
"What other bands do you like?" Luke asked, watching the father and son, amused.
Michael's attention snapped back to the blond haired man, then answered, "Loads, man. Green Day, Blink-182, A Day to Remember, All Time Low, fuck, man, I like a lot of bands."
They ended up arguing over which Blink album was the best and talked about the new Avengers movie until the turbulence ended. At that time, Josh had stopped wailing and started to demand Luke's attention again. Luke grinned at the four month old before glancing up at Michael, who had managed to fall asleep.
Josh grabbed ahold of one of Luke's fingers and squeezed it tightly, making the twenty seven year old look down. He looked kind of bored, so Luke did what he usually did with his little girl: he screwed his face into the funniest and oddest way he could think of and started to tickle Josh slightly across the stomach. Josh ended up laughing so hard tears started to gather at the corner of his eyes.
For around twenty minutes Luke kept making funny faces at the four month old. Josh smiled and grinned so much Luke was beginning to wonder whether Josh's mouth felt sore. The baby crawled over to Luke's lap and tugged on the neckline of his hoodie. He tried to stand up, clinging to Luke's hood to stay upright. Josh started to play with Luke's hair and grinned at the blond haired man.
Just then, the stewardess walked by with her cart and asked Luke, "Anything from the cart, sir?"
Luke shook his head, laughing when Josh poked him on the cheek. "Maybe water."
She bent down to grab a bottle of water and handed it to Luke, nodding at Michael and asking, "How about for him, sir?"
"Huh?" Luke asked dumbly, Josh still prodding him on various parts of his face.
"Your boyfr-oh," the stewardess trailed off, looking absolutely embarrassed.
Luke just stared at her in shock, replying after a few seconds. "W-we're no-not - we're not..." He gulped, stuttering out, "t-together."
"I'm so sorry," she replied, looking incredibly flustered. "Uh, have a nice flight, sir." The stewardess hurriedly moved on to the next row, not glancing back at Luke.
Josh stared at the blond haired man with a knowing look in his eyes and a grin, as if he understood everything that just happened. Luke just held him closer and whispered, "Not a word, yeah?"
The baby just giggled and proceeded to play with Luke's hair once more.
the end.
