"I want to apply to be a knight." I say with pure confidence.
The commander looks over his papers and at me "But, you are just a girl."
I nod "That may be true but I could beat any one of your men in a fight."
The commander thinks for a minute and then nods "Then it's settled. You will challenge my top fighter and if you win then you will get the job. If not, you will leave without a fight, understand?"
I smile slightly "Of course, sir." I slowly stand up "Now where is this knight?"
He also stands up and he gestures with his hand to the door "Follow me."
We walk down a very long and narrow hallway till he opens a door into the knights combat room. Everyone stops working and turns to stare at me with wide eyes.
"This is- sorry I never got your name."
"Artemisia." I say loudly so everyone can hear.
"Artemisia claims that she can fight better then my best fighter. so, Hugo come here." Hugo steps forward and I look him up and down. He looks to be in his early twenties, very muscular, brown hair and blue eyes.
"I can't fight a girl." Hugo says as he looks at me and then at the commander.
"You will or," I smirk at him "I'll just beat you."
Hugo glares at me and then nods "Fine, little girl, fists or weapons?"
I pretend to think for a minute before replying "Fists."
We get into place and the commander counts down from three "Three," Hugo sends me a glare "Two," I send Hugo a glare "One," I grin at Hugo "Go!"
Hugo comes at me and throws a punch at my face and I quickly block him and send a blow to his knee with my foot, catching him by surprise. Before he regains his balance I kick him in the stomach with my right foot, making him fall onto his back. I place my foot onto his neck, lightly, but he knows better then to test me.
Hugo looks up at me with wide eyes "W-Who taught you to fight?"
"Myself." I step back and hold out my hand to help him up. He takes it and I pull him up, with little to no effort.
The commander walks over to us and announces loudly "Looks like Artemisia won. Welcome to the team." He holds out his hand and I take it with a slight smile.
"Is she gonna wear pink armor??" Asks someone and everyone but Hugo and the commander laughes.
I turn towards the source and slowly walks towards him and I'm amused by the look of fear in his eyes. I grab him by the neck and I pin him to the wall "Maybe, I'll just wear your skin as armor." Everyone snickers, including Hugo. I drop him to the ground and I walk away knowing that someone is following me.
"How did you teach yourself to fight like that?"
I stop walking and turn to look at Hugo "Being abused your whole life by your mother and father figure makes you do things you never thought you would be capable off." I leave a wide eyed Hugo as I continue to walk to my destination, Prince Leos room.
The guards let me through and I open the door "L- Prince Leo?"
Leo looks up from his desk and smiles at me "Please do come in." I close the door behind me and Leo comes to stand infront of me.
"How many times do I have to tell you to stop calling me Prince Leo?"
I roll my eyes "I figured you didn't want me calling you Leo in the open for everyone to hear."
My best friend nods "Did you get the job?"
"Yes." He smiles wide and hugs me tightly.
"I knew you could do it!"
I laugh "They made me take down Hugo but that was a piece of cake."
Leo's eyes widen "He's the best fighter, right?"
I nod "Not anymore."
"Well, I had the baker make you a cake." He points over to a table and I walk over.
There's two different cakes. One says 'Congrats!' The other one says 'Better luck next time!' I turn and glare at Leo "You weren't sure if I was going to get the job?"
Leo shrugs "Better to be safe then sorry."
I roll my eyes "Is there plates?" Leo's eyes widen and I groan "You forgot plates? How in the hell do you forget plates?!"
"I don't know!" He groans and then opens his bedroom door "Can one of you get us some plates, forks and a knife?"
"Of course, your highness." One of the knights walks off and Leo closes the door.
"So, your highness," I say with a mocking tone "What royal duties do you have today?"
Leo rolls his eyes and then sits down on his bed "My father wants me to look at some paper about some treaty and," he pauses to think and then shrugs "I think that's it. So, looks like I'm all yours."
"Hmm. Good." With my finger I wipe off some frosting of the cake as there's a knock on the door.
"Come in!" Leo yells. The same guard from before walks in with the things that Leo has asked for. I start to walk towards the guard to grab them when Leo starts to speak making me stop in my tracks "Artemisia, let the knight do his job."
I glare at Leo and then take the things from the knight "Be a decent human Leo." I set the stuff down and then turn back towards the knight "You are free to go." The knight doesn't move and I raise a brow.
"He can only move on my command. But, go ahead, you can leave." The knight does a slight nod and then silently shuts the door behind him.
"You know," I say as I cut a piece of cake and I put it onto a plate "You could treat these knights like humans because they are humans Leo and you don't have to be lazy all the time."
Leo stands up abruptly and I turn to look at him "I am the crowned prince. You have absolutely no right to call me lazy or say that I don't act like a fucking human!"
I flinch slightly and I see a flash of guilt on Leo's face "Okay." I simply say before gently putting down the knife that was still in my hand and walking out of Leo's room.
