Yosano had a dream the other night. A trip down memory lane.
The main focus point of her dreams was generally things she grieved for. People she had watched die. Sometimes, she saw Mori's hateful face. Tonight was one of those nights.
So why, tonight, did Mori's figure move aside? Why did his frame suddenly clear the path, and plunge Yosano into a deep darkness?
It was so, so cold in here. Yosano felt like a small child again.
She felt warmth on her back. She wanted to go towards the warmth, but she heard somebody let out a strangled sob.
Yosano looked ahead. Though the dream was layered in deep, deep darkness, she could make out a figure of a very young girl, who kneeled with her back to Yosano. She was blurry. She was obscured by the darkness.
Yosano was plagued with a small memory that tickled at the base of her skull, drilled its way to her brain. A memory of a half-dead girl with flaming scarlet hair spread around her small, pale face, lying on a cot and barely breathing. Mori's hand pressed down on her shoulder, urging her to heal the girl. They had been kids then, in the brief moments they'd crossed paths, when Yosano had seen the girl open her bright cherry-red eyes. In that moment, Yosano needed to catch her breath from the momentary beauty.
Yosano wanted, suddenly, to call to her, to save her, but the light that came from behind her reached down, and it took a hold of her. It pulled her away from the girl in the darkness.
Come morning, Yosano had forgotten her dream.
