Time was ticking. Dawn and Ash had MINUTES before they'd get called on the field for a match with someone.
Dawn was very paranoid. Who would opponent be? What if they're really powerful? What if she used her powers out of scare? Ash put his hand on her shoulder. "Everything will be okay.. We just need to stay calm. It'll be over soon. Besides, we can use fists to fight. Unless the teacher objects to that.."
Objects to that? She thought. The teacher shouldn't object to fist fighting! But then again.. this was the class for using spells to fight. They were in a COLD mess.
"Ash, I'm scared. What if our opponents is yoo powerful to fight with fists..?" She whispered, almost trembling. "Neither do we want the attention as the element protectors.. So we don't want to use our powers! What if we get hurt badly?"
"Quiet down! No talking." The teacher gave them a glare. Ash took his hand off her shoulder. He was scared too, but he didn't show it. How can he calm Dawn down if she sees that he's paranoid himself?
"First up we have, [Name], Air Element vs [Name], water element." The teacher announced. They had just a few minutes to figure out what their next move will be. Without using their powers.
"Let's sneak out." Ash Whispered. "Sneak out? Yeah.. That's a good idea! Let's sneak out." Dawn agreed to the idea.
Ash looked around. The door of getting back into the school was quite far. They'd have to be REALLY sneaky to make this work. "I don't think the teacher would notice us, we're a bit far from the field. We have students infront of us." Ash stated. "Lets slowly inch away."
Dawn nodded, and slowly looked around. "Let's go.." She said, and slowly, they started backing up from the field. Students did think it was weird, but they didn't pay much attention to it.
"Next up is, Ash, unknown element and Jack, earth element." The teacher announced. Well shit. Ash's name got called, now it was too late to sneak out. Dawn and Ash froze. "We definitely can't back down now.." He said.
"Ash! Get on the field, we don't have all day to wait for you." The teacher grumbled. Jack was already on the field, and he started laughing, "Aw are you scared?~" He mocked.
Ash got onto the field without a word, he was panicking internally. Dawn had her hand glowing in her pocket. She had decided if something happens, she will use her powers against Jack.
"Now. Fight!"
Jack wasn't so harsh with it. I mean, come on. He isn't even the actual Element Protecter, he couldn't do much. Ash could.
Jack used a not so strong, 5 magnitude earthquake. The entire field was shaking. The students cheered for him(really people?). The students on the first row lost their balance and had to grab onto the fence.
But everyone was surprised, that Ash didn't even fall, nor did he hold onto anything for balance. They just assumed he had a good balance, what he did(Except when Brook walks by).
How did he not fall?! Dang it I should've tried to make the earthquake stronger. Jack thought to himself. He used roots from the ground to grab Ash's wrists. Ash tried to break through, but it was quite strong.
Brook will kill him if Ash gets badly hurt.. Dawn thought, hoping for the best. The teacher yelled,"Use your powers Ash! Any powers! Whatever spell you know of!"
"I don't KNOW any spells! I was absent for a month, I have no idea about spells!" Ash replied. "Do you SERIOUSLY know no spells?!" The teacher lashed. "None." He replied. Dawn knew he was panicking internally, but couldn't see it on his face, he seemed to look calm.
