Here I am waiting; I'll have to leave soon.
Why am I holding on?
My thoughts are centred on this thought. I can hear them shout the countdown. "Four, three, two!" They share happy smiles towards the strangers around them. For today, the first day of a new year, they are all friends. No one cares about social statuses and instead concentrates on having fun.
But there I am, waiting for something-or someone-who will not come. As the minutes pass, and the sun starts coming up, I finally realize what the song, the song stuck in my head, means, its lyrics haunting me since dawn. At first, I thought the man uttered the words after something had gone wrong, and wanted to leave, escape, flee, to maintain his reputation.
'Cuz in the daylight, we'll be on our own.
But tonight, I need to hold you so close.
I only realize what the song truly means because it is happening to me. In everyone's eyes, I am the bad guy. I am the one who stole you right under your boyfriend's nose. And at first, I thought our love is worth the stares and quiet insults behind our backs. But I realized that you aren't used to it. You're the golden girl, who has a smile that attracts everyone's attention from a mile radius. I might deserve this, being alone on New Year's morn, but you don't.
I never wanted to stop, because I don't wanna start all over.
I was afraid of the dark but now it's all that I want.
I decide that I will do the right thing. As much as you promise that your love for him is gone, I know that you are only denying. I want to sacrifice my happiness for someone I love. Sometimes, two people were destined to be in love with each other, but were not meant to be together.
Maybe five years from now, we'll see each other in another party. My arm will comfortably rest on my fiancée's shoulder. She will love me wholeheartedly, and will be the girl I'll love 'till the end of my days. You'll be single, and you'll survive a messy breakup with him. We'll stare at each other and realize that this is what's supposed to happen.
When the daylight finally comes, we'll be where we're supposed to be.
