The anger radiates off of your boyfriend as he stands before you. Chan isn't very tall, but his attitude makes up for it. In the flashing lights of the bar, you can see his eyes piercing through your soul and his lips pressed together.
His grip on your wrist is tight, but you manage to pull back and block his path to Minho instinctually, worried that he misinterpreted the situation.
"Don't hurt him, Chan," you say, and he laughs without any real humor. You hate the sound of it, hallow and bland, barely heard over the music but loud enough.
"Don't worry," he replies, his gaze wandering past Minho's head. "It's not him that I intend to harm."
You quickly follow his stare to the stranger from seconds ago that had been eying you perversely.
"Chan, please don't," you sigh. Those who knew your boyfriend knew how overprotective he was over those that he loved deeply. You were his world, and there was nothing he wouldn't do to protect you.
Chan takes a few seconds to consider your plea before relenting.
"Fine. C'mon, let's go." He grabs your hand and pulls you off the dance floor as you send Minho an apologetic look to which he returns with an incline of his head as he heads to the bar on his own.
Chan is silent as he leads you out of the club, his face unreadable but the grip he has on your hand less tight than before.
Since The Black Cat is only a few blocks away from your shared apartment, the two of you walk under the dim streetlights in a tense silence.
You try to think back to what the original argument was- it seems like such a blur since you'd had a stressful day at work and Chan's complaint only worsened your mood which led to everything melting together in your mind into a mix of yelling and door slamming and then the desperate need for a drink to clear your mind to forget the problems of the day.
Suddenly, your phone vibrates in your pocket. It's Hyunjin. Jinnie🥟 is calling... Accept/Decline.
You glance at Chan, who saw the screen and immediately scowled, redirecting his gaze elsewhere.
Oh, that was it! Chan had brought up how he thought Hyunjin was a bit too friendly around you, constantly stealing you away from him. You replied with irritation (as you were reminded of how your boss said earlier that day that she felt you weren't putting in your best effort despite the fact that you had been staying late for the past few weeks in order to stay ahead of your work) that Hyunjin was naturally like that with all of his friends given his slightly attention-seeking tendencies and that he respected you and Chan too much to do anything even if he really did have feelings for you. Regardless of however close you and Hyunjin would ever be, he always put Chan first. His leader, his mentor, one of his seven best friends, the man who led them to success and continues to guide them further. Hyunjin would never betray him.
Chan's tone got a bit more persistent, a telltale sign that he was genuinely bothered by the situation and had you been in a better mindset, your response would have been more eloquent and composed as you would have sat down and talked it out with him, but the only response that came to mind and left your mouth was "Fuck you." And then things spiraled quickly from there.
"You know," you begin quietly, pocketing your phone and deciding to text Hyunjin later, "if it really bothers you, I can talk to him about it."
Chan shakes his head with a huff. "No, don't bother. It's not Hyunjin. I mean, it is, but it's just... anyone. You're absolutely everything and there's no problem with you having friends who are guys, but when I feel like they're looking at you like... like they want more, I hate it, seeing them undress you with their eyes as if they could have you and I wish... I wish I could... I don't know. I'm not sure how to explain it."
