Entry #1

I, Victor Valentino, am starting this journal to keep a record of my travels.

Today is the day my journey starts, and I leave my nowhere town. I've boarded a smaller passenger ship for a fee that seems far too expensive for it all.

300 gold just for a single ticket! Honestly, it feels a little bit like robbery, but I don't have many other options since passenger ships don't come around here often. At least they have promised that food and drinks come free with a ticket.

Because of the high price of the ticket, I've been forced to travel light. All I have with me can easily be carried in one bag, those items being this journal, my quill, a full inkwell, and what remains of my money.

Perhaps not the best supplies to start off a journey with, but I should be fine for quite a while all things considered.

Entry #2

The 300 gold for a ticket was absolutely a rip off! The only drink they offered was water, and none of the food could have possibly been worth much.

I could have looked past it all if the ship had actually taken me to the destination, but they conventionally left out that the route we were taking happened to be full of large rocks and that apparently they have no idea how not to hit those rocks.

At the very least, the ship had lifeboats people could get on, though to be honest, I don't know how many of my fellow passengers made it on them.

The cords holding up the one I managed to get into snapped pretty quickly, and only one other person managed to get on. There are a few bags of fruit on board with us, so we should be fine til we make it to land.

Neither of us have said anything yet, but the other passenger seems nice enough so far. At the very least, she seems to know how to steer the lifeboat so hopefully we can get back to land soon.

I think I'll try to remain on land for the rest of my travels.

I take back what I said about her seeming nice. The first words either one of us says, and she chooses to make fun of me! If it wasn't for the fact that I have no idea how to use this boat, I would have tossed her overboard already.

She said her name was Puffy, and I suppose I could have worse company than her. I could have been stuck with someone who tried to hog all the food, or someone who was as useless as boats with me.

Entry #3

We managed to find a small port town who were friendly and helpful. Apparently we're not the first people to come here because of a ship capsizing.

They gave us a free hotel room for the night, although they only had one. Not that I'm complaining, it is free after all. Besides, it has three beds which is more than enough.

Puffy has turned out to be much more enjoyable company than I had thought she would be. She does tease a lot, but that trait is somewhat charming in its own way I suppose.

She says she's traveling too, quite like I am. I'm not sure where she plans to travel to, but then again I have no planned destination myself.

My plan at the moment is to go buy a map first thing in the morning. It's already quite late, and I've been forced to write by candle light due to the sun having set, so I'll put off doing anything more until tomorrow.

Entry #6

It has been a total of three days since Puffy and myself began the trek towards Sieur Divio. The money I have on me has dwindled slightly, not that there was much to begin with, and I don't know how much Puffy has on herself.

Not that it matters much at the moment, since most of the journey has been on foot and it turns out Puffy is quite a good fisher. I know how to cook over a campfire well enough, so between the two of us food isn't much of a problem. Getting water hasn't been difficult either.

If my calculations are correct, we should arrive at the town within a few days. Another 3 at most, but that doesn't seem very likely.

The plan for Sieur Divio is to buy supplies. I could use some more ink, and Puffy is insistent that we get a compass. We also plan to buy new clothes better suited for traveling, although I refuse to sacrifice my fashion sense no matter how "impractical" Puffy claims it is.

I may need a new quill as well, since this one is getting somewhat dull. Then again, I've had it for years now so that is to be expected. Some sleeping bags would be nice too, since sleeping on the hard ground doesn't really help with getting a good night's sleep in my opinion. My white-haired companion says it toughens you up, but I disagree.

Immensely.

Puffy says we could benefit from a meal that isn't fish and whatever fruit we have left over from the lifeboat. That would be rather pleasant. I don't know how much longer this fruit will last anyhow, and I have no plans to eat spoiled food.

Getting a lighter likely wouldn't hurt either. Writing while only using the moonlight to see isn't what I would call easy, and when we camp for the night is one of the only times, I can write a new entry. We can already make campfires, but a lighter would make it a thousand times easier and quicker.

Convincing Puffy to get one though will be quite the challenge. She seems to prefer roughing it out in nature far more than I do and seems to want to avoid buying stuff that would make it easier if we can "do it ourselves".

I'm not sure whether to be slightly fond of that trait, or incredibly annoyed by it. Perhaps both.
