" The Mourn of the Reckless Father "
In a construction site on a certain place in the city of Manila, you could hear the loud voice of an angry fat old man to Jose Dela Cruz. A fifteen year old boy who accidentally broke the glass which to be used for the building to be constructed on his work. He humbly apologized for what he had done but unluckily the old man fired him and entertained no more his apology.
Walking along a narrow and dark road towards his house, Jose's mind wandered until he reached the doorway of his small house. His mind went back to its sense when he heard the screaming of his mother who was in pain from tuberculosis. He eagerly sought and checked her inside. He found his mother in an intensed cough while shivering. He guided her to lay down gently then got a water in the basin with towel to wipe his mother's forehead. His heart melt as he saw her suffering but he could do nothing. He has no more money in the pocket to buy her some medicine to take because of his expulsion from his work.
Jose has no help to find. Aside from the fact that they were loaded with owes, no one in their place could afford to help them financially.
Sitting beside his mother, he reminisced the time when his life was not yet the same as in present. He was five years old back then when everything seemed to be alright until he knew that his father, a policeman, was leaving them because of his other woman. His mother begged his father's sympathy but it was nothing to do to let him stay. Since then, Jose's mother fell into variety of vices. Jose and his younger sister were forsaken by their mother and that was the reason why Jose's sister got ill and died.
Jose's mother-- suffering from a severe disease, was the only one left with him. As tears continually fall unto his face, Jose stood up and determined to find any means to ease the pain felt by his mother. He walked towards the city and found himself standing in front of the cashier carrying the medicines that supposedly paid by him but he hurriedly ran to escape from the lady who asked his payment. Shouting for help, the lady got the attention of the policeman nearby the store who pursue to catch Jose.
Jose did not mind for what he was doing. What matters for him was his mother alone. He was thinking of his mother suffering that made him continued to run as fast as he could.
"Stop !" said the police man who fired a warning shot for Jose. The boy continued to run more intensed than a while ago.
Suddenly Jose heard the second shot that put him down. His sight slowly turned blur and he could hear people's vague voices towards him. The policeman quickly reached him and was surprised as he saw him. Before his breath left him, Jose uttered words to the policeman saying "Bring these medicines to your wife, my mother."
