To Lie, To Love
''Another triumphant evening for the Super Sons, haha!'' Jon laughed loudly and proudly puffed his chest. Damian rolled his eyes but smiled fondly as he finished tying up the last thief. A group of heavily armed thugs had tried to rob Gotham's largest bank. Fortunately, they had been following that criminal group's activity and had gotten there in time. None of the hostages were harmed.
''Thank you so much for saving us!'' It was one of the clerks helping her fellow coworker to their feet. She wiped a grateful tear from her eye.
''No need to thank us,'' Damian said smoothly. He looked down at his phone when he heard a small beeping sound from his Bat Security app. He looked at Jon. ''Police is on the way.''
''There's a back door down the hall on the left,'' another staff member said. Superboy grinned.
''Thanks!'' He grabbed Robin's gloved hand, ignoring the older hero's protest. He could see bright red and blue lights approaching through the tall glass front doors of the building. He yanked Robin closer and scooped him up in his arms. ''Time to get going!'' He gave his teammate a wide toothy grin. Robin gritted his teeth slightly but said nothing. He blushed furiously and begrudgingly wrapped his arms around the other teen's neck for stability.
Jon looked at the red that tinted his friend's tan cheeks with a fond smile and fluttering heart. He's so cute, he thought. His feet hovered over the floor for a brief instant before taking off at incredible speed down that hall. He kicked the backdoor open and flew high up above the skyscrapers in seconds. His chest warmed up pleasantly again when he felt Damian's arms tighten.
He had finally developed his flying abilities at age fifteen exactly. It has already been a few months since then, but his proud friend had only accepted being carried recently. As much as Damian's ego irked him back when he was kid -and it sometimes still did today- now, it was just one more thing that Jon found endearing. The more he had gotten to know him these past five years, the more Jon realized all that exterior coldness and arrogance was just a way to protect himself. Damian had also slowly opened up to him over the years, revealing more of his honest and vulnerable self.
''Where are we going?'' Damian blinked up at him. They were going in the opposite direction of the Batcave where Jon usually dropped him off after a mission. Jon smiled down at him.
''It's Friday and it's not very late. Is it okay if we hang out some more?'' Jon's heart skipped a beat at Damian's smile. It was modest, but genuine and adorable.
''Sure.''
Jon could see the blush darken despite Robin's mask. I'm not misreading, right? He had been having this hunch for a while now... that maybe he wasn't the only one to feel more than friendship for the other.
Jon flew South East of Gotham to the top of highest building in the area. One that offered a nice view of the Atlantic Ocean. Although the bright city lights hid most of the stars, the sky was clear and the near-full moon reflected beautifully onto the water. He set Damian down gently on the edge of the rooftop. The two sat down, feet dangling towards the busy boulevards bellow. Damian took off his mask and gloves, then stretched out his arms before taking a relaxed posture.
''You're becoming less useless, Kent,'' Damian teased, smirking at his friend.
Jon chuckled and simply looked at him without saying anything. The teen couldn't help but stare sometimes. Damian was growing into adulthood too beautifully not to. Whatever small traces of baby fat that had lingered before were now completely gone. He hadn't grown very tall -unlike him who was hitting a yet another awkward growth spurt- but definitely looked refined. Sharp features, athletic silhouette, smooth tan skin, thick dark lashes framing emerald eyes... Jon swallowed thickly.
