A message from Reed... A welcome surprise or a reason to nibble my nails row?

He wants to meet at the place where it all kicked off - symbolism's fucking plain as day.

Problem with symbols is that they can mean a shitload of different things.

'Specially when it's an FIA agent extending the invitation.

A yawn escapes my lips as the day draws to a close at what i would consider a snails pace, the sun slowly dips low casting a warm golden glow across dogtown.

The asphalt shimmered with the remnants of heat from the hot day as Kiwi drove me to my destination, the sky's colored with vibrant hues of a fiery orange and ruby red.

Kiwi came to a slow stop as she pulled into the parking lot, the fluorescent street lights flickering on and off, a plume of smoke escapes my lips as i tossed my cig aside.

"What could they possibly want from you now? i doubt they could've found out you had taken the neural matrix off Songbird." Kiwi mumbles leaning her palm against her faceplate.

"I don't think it's anything about the neural matrix, i think Reed just wants to have a chat, though i probably wouldn't count that option out." i shake my head pushing the doors to my thorton Merrimac warlock open, my lips twisting to the side as i slammed the door shut behind me.

My gaze landed on Reed as i tucked my hands in my pockets, "What could you possibly want from me?" Reed side eyed me before fixating his gaze back towards the basketball court. "Grab a seat. We need to talk."

A sigh escapes my lips,  sat down in the seat next to Reed, "Mm, that expression isn't reassuring. Plannin to pick off your last witness?"

Reed shifts his gaze to me his brows furrowed, "Do you really think i'd need support if i wanted to get rid of you? i hate to break it to you. But you're no Morgan blackhand." my eyes narrowed, "Whatever helps him sleep at night." Johnny's voice echoes in the recesses of my mind.

"N/N. I'm gonna come out and say it." I met Reed's gaze. "You failed as an FIA-associated operative. You failed me, Alex, Myers. Hell maybe even yourself." a sigh escapes his lips. I arched a brow. "Okay and?" i held no attachments to Alex, Myers, not even Reed himself.

"In spite of all that, here we are. Watchin a basketball game. Do you know why?" My brows furrowed. "Get to the point." i stated turning my gaze away.

"You were right." Reed clasped his hands together while he leaned forward, elbows pressed against his knees. "I wanted to tell you in person. You were right N/N."

My lips twisted to the side, brows raised. "Shit. Wasn't expecting that."

"I'm not surprised. N/N i almost lost everything cause of you. I lost partners, friends, the trust of my superiors. Everything i believed in, built my life on...gone in seconds. All because i believed you'd help me save So Mi." Reed exclaims as i shake my head. "I get the sense you blame me for everything." my brows furrowed.

"Because i do. But given what happened, N/N... well, i'm startin to see the other side of all this shit. Thats why i said i think you were right." Reed sighs leaning back against the railing. "I got nothing to lose now. i might be able to gain something for once though Reed pauses for a moment shifting in his seat. "All because of you or thanks to you. Not sure which is more fitting."

"So, what will you do now." i arched a brow, "Washington beckons. Likely for a stern audience with her majesty, then relegation to a desk at langley. maybe scribbling on whiteboards, flipping through slides. Feeding fresh recruits horse shit. Among other humiliations. They already booked me the redeye- NC to DC direct."

i hummed in response, "Planin to get on it?" i glanced at Reed and he met my gaze. "Good questin. Should i?"

"Fuck if i know." I shrugged. "Do i look like someone who's succeeded at simplifying their life." i exclaimed, "You do not." Reed exhales an exasperated sigh.

"Exactly. be like me. don't be like me." i rose to my feet. "That's up to you." I remarked shaking my head.
