I looked at my surroundings. Papers - most of it is drafts I piled up since a year ago. I was trying to find something - a blank sheet. Lines or not - I just need to write a letter to the Chief Editor about the Festival. I am going to publish a novel. My relief followed the Cheif Editor, she came.
She looks at everyone but I felt like she was looking at me more. My stomach felt like a soft animal was fluttering in it. Like butterflies. Then she looked at my cubicle.
'Need anything Qaisarah?' The tall, pretty, elegant women said.
'Yes, about the Festival. The novel I am releasing. Would it be a bit smaller or maybe it need more in general. Just read through it!'
Yae miko looked at my desktop. I was holding the mouse, expecting her to make me scroll up but she held the mouse with me and scrolled down herself. She was really close to me. Smiling. Her eyes looked like she saw art. My face felt hot.
'That story is beautiful and done! Just need smaller body and we can start the print hm?' Chief Yae asked.
'Yes Chief Editor!'
'Call me Miko,'
'Yes Miko,' I exclaimed.
'How about you come to my house over the weekend and we can do important things?'
'Sure!'
'Very well, I see you at lunch,'
'Bye Miko!'
I remembered something - Miko doesn’t sit with me. I often sit by myself or don't even eat. Whatever - I must be overthinking. I did what Miko asked and then cleaned up my cubicle.
After the cleaning that made me more exhausted than me running a 100 meter run, I went to a 2 chaired table, sat down and quietly ate. I looked around the cafeteria. People with friends and loved ones. I could never understand. How do they make friends and partners... All I know is to try to seem normal. Anything out of the ordinary makes more attention and more anxiety.
'Hello Qaisarah! Mind if I take a seat? ' Yae miko asked.
'Yes, no one is sitting here, just take it,'
'Thanks for inviting me, how was your day little one?'
'Oh, I thought you needed a seat. Hahaha, whatever. Well, I am good,' I replied
'Hehe, always nice,'
I smiled at her and she smiles backed. I ate my katsu chicken while yae miko ate udon. We both were talking about random topics here and there.
'Qaisarah... Want to hang out more often hm?'
'R-r-really? Aren't you usually busy?'
'I am not today!'
'Sure Miko, I am grateful for this invitation.'
Lunch ended, I sat back down and typed and typed till my shift was over. What a weird day?
