Mauri Joseph Thomas was born on July 7, 1912 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. His parents were Robert Joseph Thomas, a 35-year-old lawyer and businessman, and his mother was Anne Roosevelt Thomas, a 29-year-old engineer and racing driver, both from England. The couple had a younger daughter named Linda Roosevelt Thomas, age 3, born January 2, 1909.
His parents returned to London in February of the following year, little Mauri had many questions about that strange and disgusting place, full of people and with a lot of rush. The Thomas apartment was very simple and humble, with a small space for Mauri to keep his toys, a teddy bear with one eye missing and the other, a toy car, a 1905 Peugeot Bébé. every day, stopping only to shower, sleep, eat and also watch his mother's races. One such race was the 1914 British Grand Prix, which she won in a Peugeot.
Mauri fell in love in the races in which his mother competed, thus, his passion for motorsport began. One day in 1915, his sister asked him to go exploring with her in the woods. As Mauri did not know about the danger, he decided to go, just before nightfall, Mauri found a shed, he called his sister and asked her to open the gate of the place. With a lot of effort from her, the gate opened and from inside, a Bugatti. They looked at each other and knew exactly what to do. They ran towards Anne, their mother, and told of their discovery and pulled her into place. When their mother saw the car, she couldn't believe what her children had found. The next day, they went back there and took the car, which, luckily, was in excellent condition.
Her mother reformed some things and, thanks to her children's discovery. Anne won all the races she competed in that year, leaving her family rich and very famous. So they moved into a mansion and got the success they deserved. Mauri and his sister were proud of what they had done, and not long after, his mother told him that the following year, he would go to school. Mauri didn't know what it was, but he would know by now.
