Here are 5 ways that will help you come up with a great Extended Essay topic:
1. Talk to your IB coordinator. Your coordinator is there to help you to select the topic that you want to do. Not only that, your coordinator has the statistics that can assist you to select which topic has the higher chance of getting an A. Not only that, you should also ask the IB teachers that will be your EE co-ordinator.
2. Do some research. Once you have a general idea of what you want to write about, do some research on your topic. This will help you narrow down your focus and come up with a more specific thesis statement. Furthermore, you would want to find a topic that more both practical and interesting, as being too practical may be less motivating but something too interesting may be too difficult for you to do. Therefore, like IA, finding the balance is important.
3. Brainstorm with friends. Sometimes it helps to talk to someone else about your ideas before you start writing. One way of doing this would be talking to former IB students who have experienced the same as you, their feedback can play key importance as you can steer away the mistakes they made.
4. Get organized. Once you have a general idea of what you want to write about, start organizing your thoughts by creating an outline. This will help you structure your essay and keep your thoughts focused; but also keep your points into one place so that it will not look too jumbled. Not only your ideas, organizing your data will help you when you start writing, as it will decrease the amount of time that it will take to complete your essay.5. Get some help.
