Lena was stubborn and it seemed Kat was far off and Lena relented when she touched Brandon's hand and it was cold to the touch. He looked up and his fingers moved in between hers. Matching between the space of her fingers. Lena didn't move her hand away partly from the guilt of him giving her his jacket. When the streetlights came on she texted her sister she'd be inside and to please drive safe.
"Come on. Let's go in I am not having my friend get frost bite."
"Help me up I am pretty sure my legs are numb."
Lena stretched out her hand and Brandon opened his door. Lena felt incredibly uncomfortable but Brandon's mom was approaching them and made a b-line for Lena. Before Lena could utter a word Brandon's mom apologizes.
"I am sorry for how I came off. I know I should've been more sensitive. But I like you Lena I think you're an honest girl and blunt. Infact I think you'd make a great wife for him someday."
"I-what...!!!!."
"Yes absolutely perfect. You'd be great for him."
"Im sorry if I disrespected your home but I'm not interested in Brandon. I- I don't know what to say to the wife comment. That's even more inappropriate..."
Brandon was frozen in place and Lena could only imagine what was going through his mind. His mother just asked his friend to marry him. This was mortifying. Lena asked if they could wait for her sister upstairs. Brandon's mom beamed and was happy they made up and Lena just didn't know how to process this.
Brandon's little brother was laughing and they could hear him downstairs. Lena closed Brandon's door and tried to get words out of his mouth but he was mute.
"Listen man it's not a big deal-."
"Not a big deal? My mom just proposed to you for me...I feel like I'll throw up..what just happened."
"I won't say a word..besides it was flattering. WEIRD but flattering in a way."
"Listen it's ok....um..."
Lena sat beside him on the bed and glanced at the handcuffs and for some reason her thoughts wondered. Did he and his ex really do nothing but fool around? But then again this isn't her business. Lena knew that and yet she blurted out.
"Are you a virgin?."
"What the fuck.."
"I...said that out loud."
"Im sorry I believe you. You said nothing happened...you're harmless I'm sorry for thinking you weren't being-."
In an instant Brandon pulled Lena in and pinned her on his pillow. Lena was scared and didn't know what to do so she asked him confidently to get off. Brandon looked at her.
"I am a man. I'm not harmless...don't let your guard down around any guy."
"Got it."
Brandon got off and Lena slapped him. He wasn't shocked but he felt the sting. Lena told him in a calm and even tone that she didn't like the games he was playing with her. The teasing about having sex with her and being forceful with her. She told him that she could only be a friend and if he wanted more that he'd better find it somewhere else. Brandon smiled and Lena wasn't sure what that meant.
"Tell me something?."
"I asked the question though?."
"Why do you keep asking me if I've had sex?."
"Curiosity."
"Why about my sex life?."
"Maybe because you have handcuffs? Just a guess."
"I'll cut the games."
"Thanks man."
"By the way...I am a virgin...I've had things done but I haven't penetrated. Now you know. I hear your sister downstairs."
Brandon came up to Lena and asked her to get up and out of his bed. Lena got the chills running down her back. She tried to look him in the eyes but stared at his lips. Brandon kept talking and Lena could only hear her heart pumping. His lips looked so soft. Nice and full and they fit his face. Is he a good- Stop it! Lena snapped herself back and grabbed her bag off his bed and went downstairs.
Brandon's mom was talking Kats ear off and Kat was having a soda. Seeing her little sister Kat asked if she was ready to go and Lena thanked everyone for having her over. And told Brandon she'd see him in school tomorrow. He smiled and said she will but before he let her go he asked if he could a have hug. Lena gave him a hug and felt his body tighten with muscles hardening. She could smell clean linen on his sweater. Lena and Kat left and made their way to the car and once their seatbelts were on and doors locked and closed. Kat looked over at her frazzled little sister and simply asked.
"Did something happen with Brandon?."
"What counts as something?."
"Anything that made you uncomfortable."
"Well...yeah but I set him straight."
"Lena you know if he has feelings for you that this friendship might not end well..."
"No I think he was just...I don't think it's that Kat."
"Okay but if anything else happens. Lemme know."
"Course Kat."
Lena watched the streetlights pass by and just listened to 99.9 while her sister hummed the lyrics. Lena didn't understand what the point of those attacks but she knew she didn't like Brandon's behaviour. She did however feel embarrassed because she thought of kissing him for a moment. He was her friend and she didn't want that to end plus she didn't have those feelings for him.
"Hey Kat..."
"Yeah?."
"Can guys and girls just be friends."
"Course squirt, both have to make sure there aren't feelings. Other then friendship. But of course they can."
"That's really good to hear."
"Why?."
"Because I just wanna be friends with Brandon."
"Does he want that."
"Well..."
"Better find out before things get more complicated."
"But I don't want to lose him as a friend."
"If he has feelings then he can't fully be your friend."
"How do I ask that?."
"In private...or online on MSN. Just ask."
"I'll try..."
