Every time you are tempted to react

in the same old way,

ask if you want to be a prisoner

of the past or a pioneer

of the future.

"So, how was your spring break, Olivia?"

My friend Jill asked me this and I thought about it for a while. I didn't do much, I guess. All of my friends went on vacation to their large beach houses. My family was not like that. They saved all of their money. I asked once why they did that but their answer was always strange. I didn't know how to respond to this question of my friend. But because I wanted to fit in I had to answer this like I had traveled all over world.

"It was fine, we went to Ireland"

Liar, nobody's knows who you really are.

"That's great, I went to California with my..."

I didn't pay much attention because something was different. It was the first day at school after spring break. As usual, nobody was happy. Our school was a small school. Around 2000 people I guess. There always had been a few groups. I was friend with three lovely girls. They also had some friends, but I didn't like them so much. I ended up with a group around eight people. Then you had the cheerleaders, rich girls, art people, skaters and bad boys.

"That sounds great Jill! I wish I could have been there with you all."

I responded to my friend because I didn't want to be rude. I had not figured out what was different but something felt strange. We walked through the cafeteria and took a seat. I could see the lockers were the bad boys were standing. Most of the time there were three of them. But today there were four boys. The fourth one I never ever had seen before.

"Hey O, is something wrong?"

I hated it when the call me "O". What's that for a nickname? But after four years I was used to it.

"Oh, uh nothing. Do you know who that boy is?"

She turned around way to obvious and looked at him.

"I don't know, never seen him before" she said.

I looked at him again. Maybe a bit to long. He looked at me and stared right into my eyes. I chocked on my drink.

"Shit, I have to go to the restroom. There's all water over my clothes"

"Oh Olivia, you're so clumsy"

You know you are.

"yeah, love you too"

I walked away, his eyes burning into my back
