A Shadow's Diamond

Prologue

A red and black hedgehog stands next to a young girl with blonde hair. Both stare out into space as the young girl smiles. She claps her hands together as she stares off into the distance to see a shooting star far off in the distance. Her blue eyes look upon the stars and Earth. She turns towards the red and black male hedgehog standing next to her, "This is beautiful, Shadow. Thank you for bringing me up here."

Shadow looks at Earth and doesn't say anything.

A metal door slides open before shutting. A white female leopard walks towards the duo before her. A smile goes onto her face as she appears next to Shadow, "Someone is frowning."

Shadow jumps a bit as he glares at the girl before him, "Diamond!"

Diamond smiles wide as her green eyes' shuts, she reopens her eyes and looks out into the open space. She smiles a little less, "This is amazing to look at." She brings her hands behind her head, "But this can get pretty boring, right Maria?"

Maria nods, "Yup! How are the twins doing?"

Diamond looks up, "They are doing fine, sleeping finally that's for sure."

"I heard that they will be put underneath inspection in a few minutes." Maria says innocently.

Diamond lowers her hands, "Yeah, they will be, but I am more concerned on the fact that Gerald is doing something stupid as per usual. Wait, why is Shadow awake? Wasn't he supposed to be tested?"

Maria looks at Shadow, "He is awake because grandfather allowed him to be." She turns away and walks off.

Before Shadow could be able to follow Maria, Diamond grabs a hold of his wrist. Shadow turns towards her, "Unhand me, feline."

Diamond pouts, "What? Am I not allowed to speak to you after 5 years that you have been asleep and tested on?"

"I have more serious matters to attend too." Shadow yanks his arm away.

Diamond rolls her eyes, "And you have changed personality wise because of those tests."

"What happens to me is none of your concern." Shadow crosses his arms.

"And it's none of your business to know what goes on in the Ark." Diamond holds up a light purple key card that she took out of her grey pocket.

"Where did you get that?" Shadow's eyes went wide a bit.

Diamond fiddles with it, "None of your concern." She tosses it over to Shadow, "Now, do you want to go explore a bit?"

Shadow smiles a little bit and catches it, "Let me grab Maria."

Diamond places her hands onto her hips, "Maria is going to her grandfather before the experiment starts. We got time before you have to go back protecting Maria and until you have to be put back into the tube."

Shadow looks down at the card in his hand as he looks back up at Diamond who is smiling. He nods and walks over to her, "Now show me." He hands back the card.

Diamond takes it and starts walking while grabbing a hold of Shadow's hand. She smiles wide as she walks over to the door. She swipes the card, and the purple door opens before them, "Grouchy men first." Putting the card away.

Shadow removes his hand from Diamond's and walks into the room to see a lot of wires. He turns around, "What is this place?"

"This is where they mess with the wires." Diamond walks in and the door closes behind her. She continues on walking, "They fix the lighting and other electrical stuff." She holds some wires out of the way to reveal a metal ball being surrounded by lightening. She smiles wide and turns over to Shadow who walked up to her.

Shadow watches light hit against the ball in a fast light blue speed. He never seen something like it before. Gerald nor Maria ever told him about this, but now he wonders how Diamond knows about this place. He turns his head over to Diamond, "How did you find out about this place?"

Diamond shrugs, "Got bored 1 day and decided to investigate around here."

Shadow looks away from her. He has already forgotten that Diamond is a woman who would do things without Gerald saying that she can't do something. She is everything that he didn't want to be but enjoyed watching something happen. Shadow looks over at Diamond to see her green, emerald eyes staring at the metal ball. He grabs a hold of Diamond's hand and brings her close to him while their noses touch and their lips were inches apart. He felt a strong feeling towards her, he didn't want the feelings to go away at all. He starts to close the gap.

"Diamond the snow leopard to the testing lab for infants."

Diamond blushes hard as she pushes Shadow lightly off her, "Sorry, I guess that the moment has been ruined." She starts to leave while Shadow begins to follow her.

Shadow has to get to Maria and clear his mind. He shakes his head and soon starts to regret about what was about to happen. He watches Diamond go into the testing lab while he goes into the observatory where Maria is. He sits down next to her as he watches Diamond enter the room.

Gerald enters the observatory and sits down on the other side of Maria with a microphone in his hands, "Alright, Diamond. We shall begin the experiment 78. Begin to take out Snow."

Diamond walks over to the first tube with an infant white female kitten in it. She picks up the kitten and holds her close to her breast.

"Now grab the shot that says D9 and inject Snow with the shot." Gerald speaks into the microphone again.

Diamond walks over to the shot that says D9 and picks it up. She injects Snow with the shot before putting the shot down.

"Do the same thing with Petal and you may exit to the left." Gerald puts the microphone down onto his lap.

Diamond puts Snow down in the first tube before walking over to Petal and picking up the other female kitten which is light pink. She walks over to the shot that says D9 as well and picks it up.

A guard runs into the observatory, "Dr.! There is a fire in Lab 9 and it's spreading over here!"

Gerald stands up, "How far away is it?"

"About a minute away."

"Evacuate everyone from lab 3-9. Shadow, you take Maria away from here." Gerald looks up at Diamond who is putting Petal back into the tube. He drops the microphone and rushes Shadow and Maria out of the room. He turns towards Diamond before exiting the room and closing the door behind him. He turns towards the guard, "Lock up lab 4." He turns away and rushes to leave the area.

The guard walks over to the door and enters in the code to lock all doors in lab 4.

Diamond hears the doors lock as she walks over to the door and bangs on it, "Hey! What's the big idea?! Is this another drill?!" She begins to smell smoke.

Diamond turns her head over to see fire beginning to come out of the vent. She rushes over to the kittens and picks them up. The fire enters the room and begins to engulf the room and everything in it...

Gerald walks to see Shadow and Maria staring at him. He looks at Shadow.

Maria asks, "Where is Diamond? Is she safe?"

Gerald doesn't answer.

Shadow runs over to the barricaded door.

"If you open that door, everyone here will die." Gerald says aloud.

Shadow feels tears go down his face as he bangs on the door. Screaming out Diamond's name in frustration.

Maria covers her mouth with her hands as she begins to cry.

Gerald looks over at one of the scientists, "Let us continue on project Shadow."

The scientists nods as they walk over to Shadow and pull him away from the door while he was screaming out Diamond's name. They force him into a tube and close the glass door. Forcing him into slumber.

Gerald turns over to the door to see that the fire is finally being put out, "Goodbye projects Diamond, Snow, and Petal."
