Zombies. The worst thing in the world for me, my worst nightmare came to light. How did it happen? A meteorite fell from the sky. And, I don't know if you know, but Brazilians are a curious people. Everyone who was close to the meteorite, fled away to see it. People from here don't see anything different, is it a meteorite? They ran to see it, except for me, I saw it on television. The meteorite was lilac, the most beautiful cut stone I've ever seen.
A few days later, people started acting weird. They started screaming with their hands on their heads, and then, the transformation began, it was an outbreak! As we were already aware of the Covid pandemic, I mean, most people, because there are always those with an airhead, worse than zombies, we immediately started using masks, even without knowing the method of contamination.
As the days passed, we realized that we couldn't be bitten or scratched. The virus was not inhaled. But even so, I kept wearing a mask, who knows. Some lakes and dams were interdicted, because the water was being contaminated by the virus. The luck is that the zombies are so slow, that we take three steps, while they are still in the first one. But the gossip on the day of the infestation was very quick. My mother said that gossip moves the world, really, the gossip neighbors were the first to transform into zombies. Occasionally, I hear a hiss coming from them, maybe they are still gossiping, maybe it is just something on my mind.
Today, on the forty-fourth day after the infestation, my cousin and I did a lottery, so it's my day to go get water, because here in my house, the water is unfit for consumption. There is a deposit, like an improvised concrete and metal sinkhole, but the edges are very little inclined, which makes it possible to pass through it, and after about five steps, it is easy to approach the hole with water. My cousin calls it a funnel deposit, only she can make me laugh in such a situation. Also, the bottom of the funnel deposit is about two meters deep. How does my cousin know these things? I will not ask. I'm scared about the zombies.
I couldn't sleep well this morning. I left the house early, and gathered all my supplies, in case I got lost or had to isolate myself somewhere nearby. The pit is not far from here. I'm scared to death. It's a quick walk, but a very dangerous one. Some zombies are inactive because of the sun, they stay still until they hear a voice, the voice awakens something in them. Gossip zombies!
Caution. Be careful, Leah! My breath barely comes out. Until then, everything is calm, I can already see the pit from here. It's a little bigger than my cousin had told me. I step through the tall grass around the pit, my legs are shaking. I remember when I used to come around to pick up little rocks to help my grandma decorate the potted plants. Greetings, grandma.
I walk closer to the well and leave my backpack at the entrance... What is that? Shit! I slipped, no, no, no, this can't be happening! I wanna cry. There are three zombies inside the pit and I can't go back to the edge, but I also can't enter the almost empty pit either. And It doesn't even have water! I'm going to kill my cousin!
I'm sliding down a lot and tiring fast, when I think I can reach the edge, I slide back down. If one of them catches me, I'm screwed. Worst of all, they already realized that I'm here and are trying to go up. It's like a game, I slip and they try to catch me, then I try to get back up. I will die here!
I'm tired, without strength. I have no communication with my cousin. I want to cry, my arms and legs are already bleeding and scratched by the concrete from trying to drag myself to escape.
Wait, I managed to hold on to something, it's going to work, it's going to work. Shit! My hands are too weak to grip anything. No, no, no, no... As I slowly fall into the pit and they pull my legs, I can only think of one thing: what great gossip I would make.
