"It's so nice to finally meet you, Y/N. Demi talks about you all the time! We're so honored that you could make it over to dinner tonight." Demi's mom smiled.
You looked up from your plate and over at her, finding yourself feeling more relaxed because of how kind Demi's family has been to you so far this evening.
"It's so nice to finally meet you too! Thank you for having me over tonight. There's nowhere else that I'd rather spend this Christmas with." You politely spoke.
Demi brushed their hand across your thigh, wordlessly telling you that they were happy to see you so at ease and to see you enjoying yourself around their family.
It's your first Christmas with Demi and after spending last night with your family, you're spending today here with them and their family, which you're happy to be doing.
You felt pretty nervous on the way, to the point where you felt a little sick to your stomach.
But now, seeing how nice their family is, you're as relaxed as you can be.
However, that was about to change a little.
"You said she was pretty, Demi." One of Demi's uncles mumbled under his breath.
But his words were loud enough for everyone to hear, including you.
You hung your head a little, feeling the discomfort set in a little as the words sank in.
"You got something you want to say?" Demi asked as they dropped their fork onto their plate, now staring at their uncle in disbelief and anger.
He lifted his head and looked across the table, his eyes landing on Demi after a moment.
"You could do better." He spoke.
"No, I couldn't," Demi said as she squeezed your knee in comfort.
"Yeah, you could. God, this girl you're with is so annoying and she's not pretty at all. You talked so highly about her and for what? This?" He laughed.
You scooted your chair back with the plan of getting up to exit the room to compose yourself.
"No, baby, don't," Demi said. "Don't go anywhere. The only person that should be leaving is him. You did nothing wrong."
"I should leave? For what? Saying the truth? How can you be interested in her? I bet she's using you."
"She is not using me! Now stop running your mouth and shut up!" Demi yelled as they slammed their hands onto the table in anger.
Everyone jumped, surprised by their sudden outburst.
"She seems so fake."
"Will you just shut the hell up already?" Demi asked as they clenched their fists. "I've heard enough. Mom, either we leave or he leaves."
"No, honey, don't worry. He's going to be the one that leaves." Demi's mom replied.
"For what?"
"You know what! Look, Y/N is perfect to me. You don't have to agree and that's fine. You're my uncle, not my boss. You might think you're trying to look out for me or something but you're not. You're being mean and unfair by judging her without even getting to know her and you have no right to judge my girlfriend the way that you are right now! She's beautiful and I like her a lot. She's the best thing to ever happen to me. I don't need your opinion and neither does she. Neither of us asked what you think of her. So, just get out of here!"
"Fine." He said before getting up and grabbing his things. "But I still think you could do better."
"And I still think you're full of crap. Bye." Demi smiled and watched him storm out of the house, sllamming the door behind him.
"I'm so sorry about that, Y/N," Demi's mom said.
"No, don't worry about it."
"He never acts like that. I don't know what's come over him." Demi's cousin mumbled.
"It's okay. I can let it go." You said and focused on Demi's touch. "Thank you for defending me."
"It's what I'm here for. No one talks to my girl that way, not ever." They said before booping your nose and pecking your lips.
"You just ignore what he said. Let it go in one ear and out the other. Because we all love you, sweetheart, and I've never seen Demi so happy before. That's all that matters. No one else's opinions matter, not one." Their mom spoke.
"Thank you." You said before laying your head on their shoulder.
Demi softly kissed your forehead before their mom began to talk to you again as everyone around the table got to know you better and adore you even more than they already did, making Demi so proud and so happy.
