With Nagito Komaeda in mind for the rest of the day, you went through your classes easily. By the time the end of the day arrived, you already had butterflies in your stomach. A part of you was even worried as to whether or not he really likes you, as you can't help but remember the way he acted about you having no talent.

Now, as you're closing your locker, you wonder if there's a way you can repay him for protecting you from the students who had bullied you. You want him to know that you appreciate what he did for you. But you also hope he doesn't dislike you for not having a talent. Why had he essentially insulted you after keeping you safe from the girls who had been bothering you?

As you sling your bag over your shoulder, you recall that the girls had gotten creeped out by him. They had called him a freak! Why? He seems fine enough to you, aside from the fact he had made remarks about you having no talent. You also thought about the words he'd said to them. He had said that they must've seen you as a powerful threat. He'd said that in such a condescending manner, as though students from Hope's Peak couldn't possibly find you threatening!

By the time you exit the building your mind is already spinning with confused thoughts. It's only after you almost walk into the path of a moving vehicle in the school's parking lot that you catch yourself and jump out of the way back in time. You realize you have been walking without looking at where you were going. You blush, embarrassed that you almost strode straight in front of the vehicle. You look around to see if anyone else noticed you. Then, you also look to see if you can make out Nagito anywhere. You scan the front schoolyard, frowning when you don't see him immediately.

"Hi!" A familiar raspy voice from behind caused you to jump. "Were you looking for me?"

Whirling around, you see that Nagito is standing behind you. He is wearing the same uniform as earlier. His arms are crossed and he is smiling. He seems amused.

"Y-yes! When did you get here? I didn't see you when I walked through the doors." You're blushing even harder than before now. Your cheeks feel hot. First, you had almost walked into the path of a moving vehicle. Then you had been so lost in thought that you had been snuck up on. Not that sneaking up on you is hard. You're not used to having people talk to you. When they do, you're usually a nervous, stuttering mess like you are now.

"You didn't see anything when you walked through the doors. I saw how you almost got hit by that car." Now his expression softens with concern. "Are you alright, (y/n)? You look like you were given quite the scare. I'm sorry if I scared you too much by sneaking up on you. Ah, I came over real fast when that car almost ran over you."

You assure him that you're fine. He then steers you away from the school grounds and the two of you begin to chat.

"I'm glad you actually came! I was a bit worried you'd forget." You feel awkward for saying that. You're not the best when it comes to socializing with others.

"How could I? It's not very often someone asks to spend time with me." Nagito continues to keep his serene, happy expression as he speaks. "Besides, it would be awfully rude of me to stand you up. I wouldn't want to leave you waiting there for me. I tried to be there as early as I could. My luck didn't get in my way for once!" He chuckles under his breath. You are insanely curious about this boy. What exactly is his luck? How does it work?

"Where are we going?" You ask, realizing that you haven't even thought about where the two of you were headed.

"Just to a nearby park. If that's okay with you, of course."

You tell him that you're fine with going to the park and the two of you continue chatting about your day. You tell him about your classes and about how you were kind of nervous and excited at the thought of talking to him. You also thank him once again for how he stopped the girls from bullying you earlier.

His day, however, is much more interesting. He rambles about how he and his "amazing classmates" had a normal day up until some girl named Akane ended up accidentally eating some other girl's lunch, prompting Nagito to go get a new one for her. On his way to fetching a new one, he passed through a few fights on his way to the cafeteria and he ended up falling face-first into a trash can when he accidentally slipped on some liquid. Needless to say, the fact he considers this an average day fascinates you.

The two of you sit down at a picnic table in the park. For a moment, the two of you are quiet. Your chest feels tight with anxiety. You then decide to ask him what you have been wanting to know all day. You're not sure if you're ready for his answer but you want to know sooner rather than later.

"So, um, why did you call me a nobody before?" You ask.

"Well, it has to do with your lack of talent, of course!" Something in Nagito's eyes becomes more intense. Almost frighteningly so. "Don't feel sad, though, because...I'm the exact same way. I don't consider my luck to be a talent."

"W-what does all this matter?" You can't help but blurt out your nervous question. You feel hurt that he really thinks so little of you for not having a talent.

Nagito chuckles. "Well, since you asked, I suppose I don't mind telling you all about how I believe hope and talent work!"
