"Save one life, you're a hero. Save 100 lives, you're a nurse." —Unknown

It was near noon. Your shifts were from night, into the noon. If someone came in a bit early. You were lucky. You checked the watch on your left wrist and sighed. 'Where the fuck is Eli..'. You start to head to your supervisor. You loved Eli. But it started to get on your nerves.

Your shoes padded against the floor as you approached the office. You knock on the door and he yells come in. You open the door and see someone sitting in one of the two chairs Infront" of his desk. "Oh. I'll come back later your busy." "No. I was actually about to ask for you to come. Please. Sit." He motioned to the seat next to the other male. "Y/N. Meet Captain Price. Mr. Price. This is Y/N. One of our best."

The male you now knew as Price reached his arm out. You reluctantly took it with a soft smile. His hands felt rough. Yet soft at the same time. A few blisters here and there compared to your much softer ones from not using them for anything but cutting open a few bodies and fixing what was said to be broken forever. His grip was strong and he let go after just a moment. You turn to face your boss. "May I ask why Captain Price is here? As well as me?"

"I'll fill it in for you Sir." Price turned his body to face you more. He took a long breath. "We need you at 141. Our Medical attention supervision has recently retired. Our team needs someone A.S.A.P. You able to do it kid?" His face looked hopeful. Like a puppy begging for a treat waving Infront of his face.

Was I? I've never been anywhere but here. In the clinic. This was a once in a lifetime thing...
You thought. You felt the man's hopeful gaze on you as you but your lip. A time like this. A greater chance to help people. Especially since it was upfront. You raise your head slightly. Price was looking at you anxiously.

"When do we leave?" You huff. A small smile on your lips. Price leaps up and high fives the air. "Thank you Y/N! You truly don't understand how important you are to our team!" He nearly yells into your ear. He lets you go yet his hands remain on your shoulders. "We can leave as soon as your ready kid."

You smile. Something about him reminded you of a father. A gentle supportive father whom loved to use terms that kids used around him. You nod. Your boss dismisses you and you begin to walk to the staff room to explain that you were going to leave to your friends. A look gathered among them. Jealousy? Envy? You gather your things in just a few minutes. Price had said that you could have all the time you needed, but you didn't want to take over an hour. After all. You had fast hands.

You took around 45 minutes. Would have been less if you hadn't been stopped up in the traffic. You had just what you needed. Clothes. Scrubs incase it got messy. Your fidget rings, as well as a few of your plushies. they were battered and a bit torn. But there was a simple and loving aroma that radiated from them. You place them gently in your bags. You didn't want them to be stitched or replaced. You liked them for just how cute and torn they were. Of course cleaning them was a pain. But a nice and loveable pain that made you happy.

You arrived back at the clinic. Walking back into the office with your boss and Price. A large grin washed over his face as you showed him your bags. He stood from his seat as he shook your boss's hand. And walked over to you. Slinging his arm over your shoulder. He stood a little bit over you. You waved 'good-bye' to your colleagues as you walked by the staff room. No one waved back. You and Price walked through the long halls and over to the elevator. you stepped in with Price near behind you. you reach over and Press the 'Ground Level' button. And the elevator descended downwards slowly.

The elevator dings as it reaches its lowest level. Price steps out carefully and you follow shortly after. The sun beat down gently over the trees and pavement. The silence was great. It had been a long while since last summer. Warmth was the best feeling. Not heat no. But warmth. A hot day with a cool breeze was everything. it just. Felt like it was the way to be.

Price was the one to break the long simple silence.

"I think I should tell you about the boys before you meet them. Its best if you don't take anything personal. They loved the old medic. I think they grew too attached. Hopefully they learned their lesson."

'Well I'm sure we can still be great acquaintances. After all. I am going to be there helping everyone as best I can."

"Its not you I'm worried about. It's Ghost and Konig. They got hurt the most. They would always visit the old lad. Help him lift anything that he couldn't. just. Don't take it personal if they say anything or act strangely around you."

"I'm sure it'll be fine! They just seem to be dealing with grief in there own ways. I've seen many family and friends handle it in all sorts of ways."

Price smiled and nodded as he stopped at a car. Opening the passenger door and letting you toss your bags in the back seat. He got into the driver side and started the engine.

"Oh uhm. Hope you don't mind planes. Its the fastest way to the base."

A chill runs over your body.

Fuck.
