"Hey, how's Makua?" I greeted Hiro as Reiji and I joined up with the others. "Are they okay?..."
"I... I wish I could tell you, but truth is... I don't know either," he admitted quietly. "They haven't come out of their room since the battle yesterday."
"Ugh, if only I had been there! Who the **** does Uju think he is?!" Reiji snarled, but I placed a hand on their back. "Calm down, Ji. It won't help Makua."
"I-I know, but..." They leaned onto me, looking worried as they continued, "Makua... they've been through so much, and... I was already starting to see them be happy for once in their ****ing life... So why... WHY DID THAT ******* BETRAY THEM?!"
"Technically speaking, he was always part of Perfectio, so..." Gulus sighed. "I wouldn't call it a betrayal."
"Gulus..."
"Ugh, I wish I could stay here all day to try to coax them out of there, but... I have that charity event to go to."
"I'm going too, remember?" I reminded them. "And Makua did promise to."
"Can you even force them to do anything at this point?..." Bakumon asked, looking pretty sad. "They haven't eaten breakfast or lunch..."
"I... guess we'll be one volunteer short..." They sighed. "Oh man, this is not going to end well when I tell the leader."
"And the kids love Pumpmon too..." I agreed. "Ever since Makua began joining us for those, the kids have been looking forward to him..."
"You could take the babies," Hiro offered. "And maybe Haru and Amano. Try asking around. You could always find volunteers and help promote camaraderie and all that."
"That isn't a bad idea," Reiji sighed again. "I just wish that Christmas would be kind to Makua for once."
Gammamon blinked. "Why why?"
"It's just that... the Daikis never celebrated Christmas and December was always filled with some sort of dark lecture about how Makua is pathetic and only mattered because they chose to adopt them. And Ismaya tried but... he only sent Christmas cards."
Hiro's eyes darkened while Gulus cracked his knuckles at my explanation. "I am so disappointed they're in jail right now. I want to murder them myself."
"Bold of you to assume Mei wouldn't beat everyone to it," Reiji drily said, making him grumble as he looked away.
"Anyway, we need to go now, so see y-" Suddenly, something slammed right onto my face from Makua's bedroom as the door shut as quickly as it opened. "OUCH! What the heck!?"
"Wha...?" Hiro picked up the item and showed it to us.
My eyes widened when I looked at it. I briefly remembered the sugar plum on the wreath Makua had shown us, and this was the same sugar plum on an anklet.
"This is another Fruit item for sure. The aura it gives off is intense," Gulus said while leaning in. "Where did Eos even... They hadn't left the room whatsoever..."
"Remember when they mentioned the silver bells showed up on their own? I think that's what happened here," Reiji suggested.
"But why do they keep on showing up around Makua?" I asked. "What does Makua have to do with all of this aside from being Menoa Bellucci's grandkid?"
"Good question... And remember what Dan said yesterday?"
"Something else aside from the Codes?" Ryubo-san repeated.
"I don't know what it was. But I recognised the Melancholy code in Pumpmon... Only 4%, but... the real issue is the 96%. It felt... a bit foreboding and warm?" Dan looked confused. "I don't know how to describe it."
