Renee stared at the room with an unreadable expression on her face. She walked in and closed the door behind her. She moved to the bed and dropped her phone on the bed and sat on the bed. She was exhausted. In fact exhausted was an understatement. She had finally arrived at Hamptons. Yes she had made it. Almost unbelievable but she had. She had travelled by bus all the way from Verles to Raven city. It was a journey that took 3 whole hours and for someone who didn't usually travel, this was a lot. When she arrived at the school it looked even better than it did on the website. At least she wasn't the only one who had boarded on the bus. There were other student who were on the bus. Some of which were freshmen too. Hamptons took the comfort of their students seriously it seemed. She just had to reach the designated stop and the bus they sent picked her and the other students . Eventually she found her way to the Dean's office and got her schedule for the semester. Using the little shool map given to her by the Dean's secretary she found her dorm and here she was. So she was finally at Hamptons . She was learning to move on. Time flew but the past 3 months of her life had been nothing but torturous. She lost her aunt, Marie Quinn, the only family she had to cancer. That was the most devastating event in her life. Aunt Marie was all she had and now she was gone. She never got to know her parents though she saw their pictures in the house she and her aunt lived in. Aunt Marie being her dad's sister took care of her all her life and now she was gone too. Was she bound to be alone? Or was this just fate's cruel game?
And why aunt Marie of all people. She was one of the kindest souls she knew.
She had told her to never give up her dreams no matter what. They both knew aunt Marie was going to die anyway. Renee was devastated but aunt Marie seemed more sad to see her cry than the fact that she was going to die. It was funny that someone was so good that they ignored that they were the ones going to die just because someone else was sad. She didn't know if angels truly existed but she was sure aunt Marie was one. It had been three weeks since she visited her aunt's grave. She had told her about her plans to resume school In a couple of weeks. She had a long conversation with her grave. Pain could make u do crazy things but she didn't care. Dead or alive her aunt would always live in her heart so she made sure to tell her about all the details of her school. And now she was here. She wondered what lay wait for her here. She was starting a four year journey here and she wanted to make the best of it. She had to do her best as she had promised her aunt. Not wanting to think about the past for now, she got up and began to unpack her stuff. She placed everything where they belonged. Books in the drawer by the bed and the table by the window, clothes in the closet and shoes too. Apparently her roommate hadn't arrived yet so she guessed she was a freshman too. Looking out the window she saw the yard that extended from her dorm area. This would be her home for now. She heard her stomach made a not so alien noise and knew it was time for lunch. Checking her phone she found out it was 12:53pm. Using the map given to her, she found her way to the cafeteria. She got her meal and found an empty table and sat there. She looked around. She noticed that the students here were seated in a certain pattern. Apparently the rich kids got the best table. As if that was a surprise, that was how the world was designed anyway. She sat quietly ignoring the world around her to ear when the seat opposite her was drawn by someone. Looking up she saw a blue eyed brunette. She was pretty. "oh hey can I sit here? " she said
"sure" Renee said
"Im Laura. Laura Finn. " she said
" Renee Quinn "
" You're a freshman ? " Laura asked.
" oh yeah I am. in fact I just arrived a few hours ago. "
" oh same "Laura said.
They dug into their meal having some small chats about their experience on their way to the school and opinions about the school and when they were finished Laura said she had somewhere to go. Renee had nothing else to do at the cafeteria she decided to head off to her dorm. So they bid each other goodbye.
When Renee went into her dorm she went straight to sleep. She needed it. She woke up feeling like her brain had been hammered hard. Checking her phone she saw that it was 6:26pm. She had actually slept for a good 5 hours and she felt like it was a few minutes. Looking at the window, she saw it was already dark. And she was hungry. She needed to stack some snacks in her dorm in case of emergencies. She made a mental note to that but for now she needed to get to the cafeteria.
Her hair was a mess and she didn't have time to brush it so got a lavender colored hoodie from the closet and and put it on. She tried to find the map given to her but she couldn't find it. Dammit. Where was that thing.
She couldn't find it and it was getting darker so she decided leave it. She probably kept it somewhere in this room or worse she lots it outside the room. Relying on her memory, she set off for the cafeteria. Locking the door behind her she left her dorm building she tried asking a girl but all the girl said just sounded like gibberish. She nodded as though she got what she said even though she didn't. This was going to be hard. As she walked trying to remember which route she took earlier today but all she did was to wander and she did so far away from the cafeteria's direction. She looked around and tried to think if she had come across this place in the day but it didn't seem like it. Turning around to find her way back to her dorm, she bumped into a hard chest. She looked up and saw metallic grey eyes hooded with Raven black hair "oh am so sorry she said. " can't you see where you're going? " He asked sounding a bit annoyed and irritated.
"I said am sorry. I couldn't see OK?
I was trying to find the cafeteria but it seems I can't. Can u help me? Please?"
Nicholas looked at the girl who bumped into him. She had reddish brown hair and hazel eyes. . She must be a freshman, he thought.
"Follow me" he said.
He led her to the cafeteria and before she could even thank him he left. He didn't even tell her his name. She would have to thank him later. That's of course if their paths crossed.
She looked around and found Laura sitting at the table they sat on earlier today. She waved at her and indicated that she was going to get her dinner first. She hot her food and joined Laura at the table. "hey" she said
"Thought you weren't coming for dinner"
" oh I actually slept off when I went back to my dorm but I woke up and decided to get some food. I also got lost on my way here but luckily I found my way with some extra help from someone " Renee said.
"Didn't you use your map? "
" Funny story I lost it" Renee said with an embarrassed expression
"oh that explains it" Laura said.
" so Laura, you didn't tell me your major " Renee said, trying to shift the topic from her carelessness.
" oh I major in biochemistry"
" Oh wow, same" Renee said with a smile. This was great news. She didn't feel so alone here anymore.
" I guess we'll be attending the same classes then"
" yeah".
This was great news.Author's note.
