Chapter 2 The Van Der Linde Family

Anne awoke with a start and felt a large lump on the back of her head. She tried to stand but she realized that she was shackled to a post by her leg. She looked around and saw that she was in a camp of some kind. People were milling around filling out chores and nearby a heavyset man was throwing things into a big pot. She heard a woman's voice yelling nearby about laundry being dirty.  She then heard a moan nearby and saw that Marcy who was shackled to a post next to her was starting to come around.

Anne: "Marcy?"

Marcy: "Whuzzat huh, Anne?

Anne: "Oh thank goodness are you alright?"

Marcy: "Yeah my head hurts a bit, where are we?"

Anne: "I don't know."

A voice then rang out "looks like they're awake"

The two men from before walked up to where they were shackled but now they had their masks off and Anne and Marcy got a good look at who they were. The blue shirt man had a slight brown beard and cold blue eyes and looked to be in his late 30's. The other man that knocked them out had a slight black stubble and multiple scars across his face and looked to be in his late 20's.

Blue shirt man: "Sorry ladies about the goose eggs this dumbass over here thought you two were a threat to us."

Scarman: "Arthur what other reason would they be wearing such strange clothes if they weren't dangerous."

Anne: "(Thinking) His name is Arthur could it be?"

Arthur: "Now John, how could they be a threat to us, their just kids."

Marcy: "(Thinking) John? Is it really?"

Two more men came up from behind Arthur and John. One of them was wearing a black hat with a matching black tailcoat with two pistols tucked into side holsters at his waist. The other man was older and had on a thick overcoat and scarf to go with it. The black hat man spoke first.

Black hat: "Alright who are these two maidens that trespass into our camp?"

Old man: "Dutch I doubt they will answer you they must be scared out of their wits."

The old man kneeled to their eye level

Old man: "Are you two girls alright?"

Anne: "Yeah we're ok apart from the lumps on our heads."

Everybody turned to John with a scowl

John: "That's the last time I assume anything!"

The old man rolled his eyes and looked back at the girls

Old man: "We're sorry for the pain we have caused you two, but I must say you two are not from around here, are you?"

He pointed to their clothes and the girls both shook their heads.

Old man: "hmm."

He stood up

Old man: "Hey Arthur where is that bag you and John discovered when you found these two?"

Arthur went to his tent and brought it to the old man

Anne saw the bag and realized it was her backpack

Anne: "Hey that's my bag!"

Arthur had already ignored her and dumped the contents of the bag on the ground.

three of the four men picked up the various objects with black hat grabbing Anne's tennis racket, the old man grabbing her magazine, and Arthur grabbed Annes phone.

Arthur: "What the hell is this thing (examining the phone)?"

Anne: "Be careful with that, it's my lifeblood!"

Arthur: "It's just a box."

Black hat: "I've never seen a pink tennis racket before."

Old man: "This must be a children's storybook (flipping through the pages of the magazine) there are really only pictures in here."

While Anne kept imploring that they put her stuff back, Marcy was quietly studying the faces of each of the men and realized that she had seen them before in a video game. Marcy then got Anne's attention and whispered in her ear

Marcy: "That's Arthur Morgan and John Marston from RDR2."

Anne whispered back

Anne: "What that's impossible they are from a game."

Marcy: "I know it doesn't make any sense."

Marcy had played RDR2 plenty of times and Anne had played with her a couple of times. Marcy realized they must be near the start of the game when the gang is camped near Valentine. Marcy quietly smiled to herself and thought

Marcy: "The box worked, it worked!"

Marcy then stood up and asked black hat

Marcy: "Excuse me, is your name Dutch Van Der Linde?"

The men stopped examining Annes stuff and stared at Marcy

Dutch: "How do you know my name?"

Marcy ignored him and said

Marcy: "And are you, Hosea Matthews?"

Hosea: "Have we met before?"

Marcy knew that they could not comprehend that they were fictional video game characters, so she said

Marcy: "I read about you all in an old book."

Arthur: "Who would write a book about us and why?"

Anne caught on to what Marcy was trying to do and said

Anne: "The book only exists to us because we are from another world!"

She performed a hand flourish to emphasize her point.

Arthur: (Sarcastically) "Alright other worldly beings if you know all about us tell us something that only I know."

Marcy thought for a second and said:

Marcy: "Arthur you once met a waitress named Eliza and had a son with her named Isaac but sadly both of them were killed one day over ten dollars."

Arthur stared at her in disbelief he then whispered to Dutch

Arthur: "She's telling the truth I haven't told anybody but you about Eliza and Isaac."

Dutch: "Hmm what else has that book told you?"

Marcy: "Umm I only got through the introduction that explained your biographies that's all I read so far."

Dutch and the rest seemed to believe her, and Marcy breathed a sigh of relief as she knew what may happen if she interfered with the timeline.

While the four of them were debating on what to do with them Anne's phone which was still in Arthur's hand went off with a reminder notification. The noise made Arthur drop the phone and jump back with a start; the others nearby did the same as well. Anne snorted a laugh and then picked up the phone and saw that the notification said to feed her cat Domino. John looked at Arthur and said:

John: "Are you sure they aren't dangerous?"
