I yawn and stretch across my bed. My body heat trapped under the surface of my covers. I rub my eyes with the palm of my hand. I curl back up and close my eyelids. It's officially been a month in Portugal, and boy has it been boring. I miss my mom, my friends, and MY bed. Not some guest bed I've been using for the past few weeks. I am visiting my older cousin, Kamilla for the summer. Yeah, she's cool and all but she's always at work or doing errands. I've spent most of my days here on my phone or at the cafe that's located a walking distance away. The streets are filled with unfamiliar faces and words I can't understand because I don't speak their language. I've been looking desperately to find something or someone that will help occupy me from my growing boredom.
Once I finally force myself out of bed, I grab my phone off my sleek white nightstand. I turn it on. The slim numbers show the time on my lock screen, 10:46 am. "Great," I mumble under my breath. I head to the bathroom. I do my hair, teeth, and makeup and change into some grey Calvin Klein sweatpants and a brown stretched-out Los Angeles hoodie. I grab my car keys off the marble kitchen counter, slip on Birkenstocks and shove a bagel on the way out the door.
When I arrive at the beach the salty but sweet air wafts into my face. I let out a sigh of relief and slide my shoes off.
