The delicate sound of violin echoed through my quarters as I played. Something about its soothing hum always brought clarity to my head. The way I blended my notes was something I'd known for so long, and yet couldn't tell anyone where I learned it.
"Mirror... tell me something..." I mumbled as I played.
The lyrics had been stuck in my head for years now. I could never understand where they came from.
"Tell me who's the lone..liest... of all."
A knock on the door interrupted the violin's noise, but not my playing.
"Enter," I called out.
The door opened and someone walked in. I could pick out each occupant of the manor by simply the sound of their footsteps. Heavy and large footsteps would indicate Hazel Rainart, a giant among men with a calm demeanor usually. Metallic clunks would be Mercury Black, the hot shot with metal legs and guns in his boots. If the steps were delicate in long strides then Cinder Fall was present. The mature yet young woman would be devilishly gorgeous to almost any man. These steps were delicate, but the stride was shorter. Emerald Sustrai, the dark skinned beauty with short green hair. Her and I had an... odd relationship to say the least. She would try to woo me over with charm and seduction, and while I didn't find disdain in her actions I rarely, if ever, reciprocated or openly accepted them.
"Salem is requesting everyone's presence," Emerald said.
"Of course," I said.
I played a final measure before transforming the violin into another form. The mechanisms in the instrument could change it between a violin, a Zweihander sword, or a bolt action rifle. It's name is Nova Frost. The blade fit swiftly into its scabbard and I turned to face Emerald. A black half sleeve jacket was my usual attire accompanied with my tailored combat trousers. My scabbard hung tightly to my hip and I occasionally wore a tricorn hat when I wanted to.
"You know, you should really roll those sleeves of yours up," Emerald flirted.
"For what reason?" I asked her, knowing the game she was trying to play.
Emerald ran her hand up my bicep, stepping close to me with a smile.
"Makes it easier for me to feel how strong these are," she flirted.
I held her wrist in my hand as she bit her lip slightly. I knew what she was after, so I decided to make her think she was getting what she wants. I backed her up slightly as I leaned in to her ear. I could feel her shiver in my grasp.
"Salem is expecting us, if I'm not mistaken," I whispered in her ear.
Emerald sighed and backed off from her advances with a smile.
"Fine, but I'll get you one day Koa," she said.
The jade haired beauty walked out of my room and I soon followed behind her. The dark halls of the manor were barely traversable, yet my time here allowed me to memorize their paths quickly. The doors to the dining hall opened, the other occupants of the manor already seated at the long table. Emerald and I quickly took our own seats as the rear door opened. A Grimm Seer, Salem's messengers, came through the door to the head of the table. A red smoke began to emit from the head of the jellyfish-esque monster. Our master, Salem, appeared in the red smoke, a manifestation of her form transmitted by the Grimm before us.
"Good evening, my disciples," Salem greeted.
"What news brings us to this meeting?" Asked Hazel, quickly cutting to the chase.
"The affairs have been put in order by Arthur for Cinder's team to infiltrate Beacon Academy as students," Salem answered.
Arthur Watts. The man with all the funding we could ever ask for. He had connections on every single continent and contacts in every major enterprise. Even the Schnee Dust Company was within his grasp. Cinder smiled as her role was set in stone. She would lead Emerald and Mercury as a three person huntsmen-in-training team to infiltrate Beacon Academy for our master plan.
"However, I have made an adjustment to our plan," Salem continued.
"In what way?" Asked Cinder.
"When the Beacon Dance comes around, Cinder will no longer be the one to infiltrate the communications tower," Salem explained.
The Cross Continental Transmit System, the only method of communication between Remnant's kingdoms.
"Koa Quinn, will now plant the virus to shut down the system," Salem continued.
"I will not let you down, my master," I confirmed.
Cinder was jealous, it was plain to see. She'd been preparing for this mission for months, and now her job had been given to me.
"Cinder will now assist her team in keeping any prying eyes off of our new saboteur," Salem elaborated.
"And what of the rest of us?" Asked Hazel.
"Watts will ensure the virus's procurement, and you along with Tyrian will continue your surveillance of Ozma's followers," Salem answered.
The enemies of Salem, lead by her former lover. I couldn't wait to duel any of them. Qrow Branwen and his sister, Raven, are reportedly quite the swordsmen.
"We are one step closer to attaining the Fall Maiden, and obtaining the first Relic: the Relic of Choice," said Salem.
The four relics left by the God of Light before him and his brother, the God of Darkness, left Remnant. Salem wanted them, we didn't know for what purpose, but we knew she wanted them, no, needed them.
"You all have been instrumental to this plan, and have all impressed me." Salem concluded.
Her form disappeared from the red smoke, and the Seer departed from the room. Cinder was the first to stand up, taking a deep breath as though to hide her agitation.
"While I believe that Salem should have stuck with me, at least she chose someone capable to replace me," Cinder said.
Cinder was always my equal among Salem's inner circle, and even through our rivalry we still held respect for each other.
"I simply believe that our master has elected to ensure your survival to become the Fall Maiden," I said.
Cinder smirked at my explanation. She knew I was simply stroking her ego, but it didn't change the fact that I was right. The five of us all soon dispersed to prepare for the coming victory. Two years we've prepared for this. Two years I've waited to give Ozma's followers a taste of my blade. Two years, and now I will finally have my desire fulfilled. My blade's purpose will be fulfilled.
