I raced through the dark forest on horseback. Dodging the old crooked trees and all the roots sticking up off the ground. The wind pressed against my face as we ran. I let go of the reins and looked at the small artifact in my hand. Then I looked behind me I saw a dark shadow chasing me. No, it was not chasing me it was chasing the artifact, which I was holding. I knew nothing would stop them so I kept going. Trees zoomed past and more shadows also went with them; I had to get there fast. Past trees and bushes and the ocasional thicket we sprinted. Everything looked dark and morphed into a nightmare when it was night here. Especially when you where being chased by nightmares of your own. I could not let them get this.
I saw the boundary ahead, they could not pass that. My horse sprinted the last bit and then when we passed. I breathed out all the air I was holding in. The shadows could not pass through the boundary nor see through it.
"Not far now" I whispered in my horse's ear as we trotted the rest of the way there. Then I dismounted. A big cabin stood before me. I opened the door and peeked in. It was deserted other than a small circular table with flowers in the middle that didn't look like they where watered in years. An old stove Sat in the corner. There was also the outline of trapdoor on the floor. I went towards the trapdoor and flung it open it echoed with a resounding bang against the walls as it hit the floor. On the side of the trapdoor stood a ladder. I crawled down slowly as to not break the dusty and fragile rungs.
The cellar looked like a regular basement except for the instruments standing around it; black sticks that floated and sparkled, potions that fizzled and bubbled, a rabbit trying to claw itself out of a hat and many other such magical things.
In the corner on a shelf stood a rather small chest. I crossed the room to get to the chest. It stood ajar. I opened the palm of my hand and looked at the artifact in it. Immediately the dark shadows started coming in to the room again. But this time their power is stifled. instead they where being sucked into the chest. When the last shadow came in I slammed the lid, locked it thightly and backed away slowly.
Finally I had done it. The Chest started to rattle, but that's all it did. I looked at the artifact in my hand. No one should ever come near this ever again. Should they come near the box? No not that eiether. I looked back up at it. If someone ever did do so much as touch it it would spell the end of the world.
