Alone at the bar. Felt pathetic, but what could she do? She was brand new to the area, her new job started tomorrow and she had barely had the time to say two words to her neighbors, let alone introduce herself to them. But she'd be damned if she didn't have a good night before she got down to business. University was over, and she had landed a great gig as an executive assistant to the Chairwoman of this Region's Pokemon League. Her name was Geeta, or "La Primera" as the locals called her. She had heard rumours of her being quite an elegant woman who had as much a penchant for battles as she did for tailoured suits.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was later in the night after she had eaten and started sipping on a drink when a gentle sigh brought her out of her thoughts and she looked up to find a tired looking business man falling into the seat next to her at the bar. He crossed his gloved fingers and rested his chin on his propped up hands, looking very lost in thought. The suit was nice, albeit a little disheveled, and other than a few locks of grey hair, he was definitely nice to look at. Heck, the greys actually really worked for him.

Downing the drink in front of her to settle herself into the appropriate mood to have a conversation, she looked over at him with a smile, "You look like you could use a drink."

Smooth, Sayo.

He looked over at her with stormy grey eyes and a deadpan expression, "What would you recommend?"

"You look like a sake man to me."

"I do enjoy sake, but I'll take wine," he responded, his voice still flat, "I like to live on the wild side."

"Red or white?"

"Red."

She waved down the bartender and ordered two glasses of wine. Once they were served she took a sip.

"It's drier than I like, but it's lovely."

"I enjoy a dry wine. Thank you. To whom do I owe the pleasure?"

"You can call me Sayomi. I'm new here."

"Obviously. I have never seen you before. I think I would have noticed someone new in my favourite bar."

She wondered if he ever spoke with any inflection at all. Or perhaps he was in that middle aged "too tired for this shit" mindset and it came out in his voice. She could relate. Even at twenty-four she felt exhausted most of the time in college. Now that she was living her own life in a new home and a new place, she could feel her energy coming back, even if it was slowly.

"And you?"

"I'm Larry. Pleasure to meet you."

They sat in silence for a few minutes, each enjoying their wine in their own way.

Larry didn't know if the silence was awkward or if she was doing that because she picked up on the fact that he wasn't really a people person. He had to admit that it was nice to have company, the same old days and same old faces had become his normal. Perhaps this would be a small break in his repetitious life.

"What brought you here?" he asked, calling the bartender over and motioning for another glass for the two of them.

She held her hand up, and Larry couldn't help but marvel at how small it was, "Do you have Blackberry Merlot?"

"Of course, coming right up," the bartender flashed her a smile before looking at Larry, "Same old red, Larry?"

The man thought for a moment, "No, I'll try the Merlot too."

Larry surprised even himself as the words left his lips.

As the bartender walked away, Larry lowered his head a little towards her and whispered, "Is Merlot dry too?"
